It's pretty standard to opt in and then request a trade because you can make way more money than signing as a free agent. If you dont know this you know zilch about how NBA off season/free agency and trades work.

There's always been a case for rolling it back. Kyrie's trade value is 0. When all your getting is Russ + distant 1st round there is probably a better shot you get one good season out of Kyrie than the 2027 1st rounder.

As to Durant, what the Nets want teams won't offer. And Durant has little leverage to force a trade. Basically sides are stuck in an unhappy marriage

He doesn’t have to be traded to LA. Trade for whoever gives more back. Even if all that returns is equal expiring contracts and a 2nd round pick. It’s better than nothing. I would not trade for bad long term contracts. But I’d get something in return. Someone will be willing to rent him for a season for little cost. Opportunities should not be wasted.

How much little? That’s very dependnat how he performs the first half of the season as well . I just don’t see teams willing give up salary needed to make it work . Who has 37m in cap with decent players and picks ?

Whether this is true or not this is why I don’t want to Lakers to trade a single draft asset for Kyrie. From flirting with free agency then opting in, he’s pretty flighty. He could simply come out and say whether he wants to stay or go and dispel all the rumours. If your goal is to win a championship, you need everyone on your team bought in. I don’t believe Kyrie would even be able to commit enough to being a playoff team

I'd say Kyrie was shocked at not getting a full max contract, said he wanted a sign and trade. He probably thought the Nets would panic and throw a full max at him, but when they actually started looking into it he panicked and thought he'd stick it to them by taking up his option.
Then after Kyrie lets KD know what happened, KD thinks a trade demand will get them to give Kyrie the max, but the Nets start looking for a trade. Maybe KD is currently sitting around thinking 'oops!'.... or 'wtf? they're actually doing it? fine I'm out!'

They might want to stay there and it could work out if they all got together and hashed things over, but KD, Kyrie and the Nets are all too stubborn to back down it seems.

So I still think trades will be made eventually.
