It's been like that for a long time and been like that for most of the NBA's history.
We have decades for MJ/Drexler, Kobe/Wade, West and Harden as a TOP players. Now is f.... Booker is best SG in the league...and I dont see between young players TOP talents
Yeah, Jordan and Kobe. They played a long ass time ago and the NBA existed for a long time before them. Clyde Drexler was not a real superstar.
James Harden is basically a point guard, and has even been officially labeled as such by his team (on occasion). He was just called an SG because he is usually the tallest guard on his team - ie someone like Beverly gets the nod as a PG even though Beverly plays like an SG and Harden plays like a PG.
Jerry West was definitely a point guard, and played before the distinction mattered.
But back to James Harden. Even if we pretend he is a shooting guard, which he is called that for arbitrary reasons, who was the 2nd best SG then? Or third? Bradley Beal and Klay Thompson basically. It's been like that for years...SG is the weakest position in basketball, and has been extra bad for the last decade or so - not a recent phenomenon at all.
SG is Kobe, Wade and Jordan - so yeah, big time stars and they all played around an age where most posters would be very impressionable. That gives this illusion that SG was greater than it is. It's been pretty ass, the fact that Clyde Drexler is mentioned here speaks volumes.
Compare Drexler to the 4th best PG, SF, PF, C and it's not a contest.
