That would be crazy if this deal fell apart. Knicks would get killed in the media, fans would riot, and Dolan would be fuming

Not sure about the fans though, at least on social media a decent portion of the fans don't seem to even want to trade at the asking price of Ainge.

The same folks will be tweeting "50-burger" in no time.

Perfect thread about the trade from a knicks perspective

it's why danny ainge is using the media. he's trying to flood the zone with the leaks hoping that dolan will catch wind of it if he doesn't already know what's going in.

Danny Ainge is trying to pull a Masia Ujiri on James Dolan.

Should he though? I mean, not shatting the bed would hardly be a fire-able offense. Sure, if Rose fails to make the trade because he wouldn’t include McBride or something asinine like that, but the expectation gap seems to be a lot bigger than that.

In fact, I would much rather be the team that helps another team accumulate the draft picks to go after Mitchell. Say, Miami wants to go hard after Mitchell and are willing to do something crazy like Randle and 3 first round picks for Bam. I would much rather look for those
types of opportunities.

that's fine but i don't think that's a realistic scenario

Sure, could be. But I guess the main point is Leon shouldn’t trade for the sake of trading. There’s still another couple of moves that will be necessary and we need to reserve some assets for those future moves.

Detroit seems like a logical trade partner.

Nah, don't meet his price. What can any other team even offer that would compete with our offer?

Miami is the next most likely destination according to oddsmakers. They can offer what exactly? Herro and much less picks? Does Utah even want to extend Herro?

Look at the other teams that are in the conversation and slightly beat their offer. Call the bluff of Utah - they say they will keep him but really they want to tank for next years epic draft.

and i'm sure ainge knows that and is using that against them to drive up the price.....but they still gotta get it done somehow.

It could drag on for a little bit as the reports suggest. But I am sure Ainge wants to get it done before the season so he can fully tank. Seems like it’s only a matter of time and just have to see what the final deal is

its the weird situation where its in both parties best interest to get this done soon.

Knicks will look bad accumulating all these picks to acquire a star and passing on a star that actually wants to be here

Ainge wants to tank...its clear as day...he doesn't want to have a unhappy Mitchell going into training camp.

for as long as i have been a member of this board, knick fans always think the asking price is too high and overvalue the young kids we have. on every deal ever. it's always the same. it's always too much. you can see it happening right now, the summer league threads are ridiculous. y'all the same people who thought landry fields would be special. jesus.

And the future? Will the Knicks have enough left to build a championship team?

There may be a few that are ok with passing or say it’s too much now. But feels like one of those things where if it doesn’t happen and Knicks stay mid then it’ll be one of those things people list along with all the other disappointing things. Seems like most are penciling him and expecting it so if it doesn’t happen gonna be a lot more people disappointed then happy

This is another overlooked aspect the folks who want to wait for another start to come a long aren’t seeing.. there’s no guarantee that next guy should even want to come to the Knicks. Players nowadays pretty much can control the destination they get sent to so there’s rarely ever a league wide bidding war where the best of the best offer wins

Yea the reports make a lot of sense. Maybe today, maybe a few weeks, but probably won’t drag into the season. Only a matter of time before it gets done.
