Trading for Mitchell to cap out as a perennial 2nd round exit

and this is when they'll stop, they'll get to a 2nd round team and this very active front office is going to rest?

Yeah cause they won't have anymore assets to go further with moves

I'd still take them over Eddy Curry and Stephon Marbury.

That era pretty much birthed LOLKnicks.

What exactly do you expect them to do if they have zero assets to give after the trade lol. What makes you think Donovan has the pull to bring in free agents? The Knicks will just become the Jazz of the East but all the kids in the tri state area will have Mitchell jerseys I guess.

and we were the 11th worst record with a horrendous season...we aren't bottoming out with Brunson and Mitchell...those picks will be mid teens to 20's.

This is what they were accumulating all these picks to do...trade them. They weren't planning on drafting anyone.

Ainge fleeced the Nets for Tatum and Brown, those were their picks, that should be enough of a warning sign on what we're about to do. Mitchell isn't Curry, there's only 1 Curry and people gotta stop comparing other players to him.

The Heat didn't trade Bam, Herro and 4 first rounders to get Jimmy, none of these other examples dumped everything they had into getting 1 guy. The only team that did that in recent history and won anything are the Lakers, AD shot 38% from three in the bubble, now they're looking hopeless, and we don't have a LeBron on our team to offset trading all those players & picks.

It's incredibly hard to trade that many players & picks and field a competitive team in the long term, it's why all these GMs want future picks when they trade their stars, because they're betting against your long term future.

The Nets traded unprotected picks for players way past their prime. What we would be getting is a soon to be 26 year old just about to hit his prime. It depends on the deal. If we get to keep most of our young players, that should be alright. Our FO tends to do better with later picks anyways.

The Lakers did that, won a title,
now their team looks like it's on welfare and the 26 yr old all-star they traded a kings ransom for isn't as good as they thought. The Nets also traded a lot for Harden, didn't work out.

I'm just not a fan of these kind of trade the farm for 1 guy type deals.

When was the last time the Knicks did this?

Lets rank some of the top 25 players in the NBA and whether or not they can be traded for

1/ Luka- no
2/ Jokic - no
3/ giannis -no
4/ curry- no
5/ LeBron - no
6/ durant- yes, but cant be traded here
7/ kawhi no
8/tatum- no
9/ embiid - no
10/ booker- no
11-25/
j butler- no
ja morant - no
Donovan Mitchell -yes
siakam - no
kat- no
Brandon ingraham- no
lamello - no
Anthony davis - no
trae young - no
gobert - no
Jalen brown - no
lavine - no
jrue holiday - no
beal - no
Lillard- no

now lets say for arguments sake you dont even believe Donovan Mitchell is a top 25 player, and lets rattle off some guys:

jalen brunson -no
Tyrese halliburton- no
mikal bridges - yes
bam adebayo - no
FVV- no
vucevic - yes
John collins- yes
Darius garland- no
SGA- no
sabonis- no
Desmond bane- no
Marcus smart - no
... and tons of other guys at this level- no.

im sure im missing some guys here and there in the top 25.

So realistically you have to get into the "Mikal Bridges" level of player, around rank 40. Basically guys who are #3s on winning teams and #4-5 on championship level teams.

so exactly who else can we get thats better than Donovan Mitchell?

Thank you for posting this. Dead on. There is literally NO ONE ELSE at the level Mitchell to be had in the next 2+ years. You make a deal no matter the cost if you can add a player at Mitchell's level. Obviously I don't want to give up what it will take, but what other option does this franchise have? You're kidding yourself if you think Brunson plus Obi/IQ/Grimes are going to take us anywhere.

This is a star's league, and Mitchell is a star. And 25 years old. Make the damn deal.

What has Mitchell ever won? How far did Utah get with him AND ANOTHER ALL STAR, DPOY? What makes him a star? Randle was an all-star. People around here don't seem to value him so much now. Mitchell is 6'1." Now if you're talking MARKETING, okay. A star IN THAT SENSE. But be honest. If it's just about selling ticket and merch, it's understandable. But he's not leading us the the Finals.

He's not going to lead you to the finals but what player do you have today that'll do that now? Don't see picks in the teens or 20s doing that either. I also don't see those higher picks taking Jazz to the finals either. It's a league of stars and Mitchell is about the bightest star Knicks can land today and is a home town boy. My fear is Utah becoming the kings and living each year for that next great pick and never making the playoffs. Right now I could go either way. Gamble start over or retool around Mitchell. Right now I'm 50 50. I'm tired of getting knocked off early in the playoffs. knicks won't win it all if they trade for Spida but they will become a much funner team to watch.

Trade IQ over Obi for sure. IQ type players are easy to find. Obi could be something special if the team ever trades Randle and we really start to run.

More importantly, how does RJ fit into the offensive system with these three on the court with him? Is he going to be content with being a floor spacer bc they aren’t running the offense through 4 people.

Easier to fix than a Brunson Fournier back court. Onwards.
