Yeah, Josh Smith was a hell of a player. If Kai ended up like him I'd be thrilled. He's more physically talented than Smith, but I don't see him ever getting to that point

Kai could play the 4 if Pj is at the 5. I think it’s a matter of spacing. I don’t know that he can share the floor with any other big on our roster until he becomes better on the perimeter. In fact, he should model his game as of now after Montrez. Just operate in the same areas and he’ll do well until his shot becomes more reliable.

i mean, Kai is easily playing the role of the 5 offensively in that pairing. more of a hybrid PF/C defensively but Kai should be trying everything possible to get to the rim, while PJ stretches the floor.

Kai almost at the top of the backboard here, how many other guys in the league can get this high?

Still struggles to play basketball though, unfortunately. Long way away.

Tracked down the box score for that game - https://www.fiba.basketball/basketballworldcup/2023/americas-qualifiers/game/2508/Bahamas-Venezuela#tab=boxscore

20 points, 8/12 FG (7/7 from 2s), 10 boards, 4 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks

Not exactly stiff competition but a nice line. Got to play with Buddy Hield.

And yet they still lost.... to Venezuala, despite Kai having a huge game and also Buddy with an efficient 19 in 37 minutes. How bad is the rest of that Bahamas team???

It's a minor gripe, but I just want to see our young guys start to impact winning at these lower levels. Whether it's summer league, g league, FIBA Americas or preseason. Stats don't mean **** to me if you constantly lose at every level.

Anyway, glad to see he balled out, statwise.

If you exclude Buddy and Kai, it appears that the team shot 13/39 from the field.

So not great.

He looks more decisive overall, with the ball in his hands, dribbling, driving, shooting, defending.

Game seems to be slowing down for him. He looks like an NBA player right now. And we know his length/athleticism combo is elite. His work ethic is exceptional. And his makeup is solid.

Also looks really quick for a big. His handles look tighter. He's also surveying the floor at point of attack. Impressive for a young big.

I think we have something.

It is cool that Kai is putting up stats, but honestly the dudes he is playing with probably aren't even good enough to get a scholarship to Texas, let alone play in NBA. If he wasn't the best player along with Buddy that would be an issue. He is in the NBA, they are not.

I wonder how many were at the basket?
He clearly wasn’t intimidated by Kai

I still need him to show me he’s better than Jericho Sims who we could have gotten in the second round

Thoughts on Kai?

Where does he go from here?

Pf or c?

Can he be more than an energy big off the bench?

The dunks are insane. Would be amazing to see him get decent run with Melo throwing lobs.
