Hard to tell from Summer league, I won't feel comfortable making any kind of ceiling projection until like December and even that's obviously a quick rush to judgment for a rookie. I really like what I've seen of him so far though.

Love the Antawn Jamison comparison. I think that's dead on.

Nah dude, I think he's gonna be a better player than that. If he's Antawn Jamison (even with better defense), he's not a guy to build around. Jamison was never a great offensive player despite his numbers. He was sort of an empty stats scorer, even if his FG% looked decent. He was never much of a passer or guy who made things easier on his teammates or made them better.

He was always more of an opportunistic scorer than he was a guy who could get buckets when his team actually needed it. He was another guy who would take nibbles as opposed to taking over. Murray is closer to a Mashburn type scorer. And Mashburn would've been really, really good if not for his injuries. So you'd hope for a healthy version of Mash.

Jamison, even in his prime, was never really a guy opposing teams were scared of.

Agreed about Jamison being an opportunistic scorer, I think Murray will do that and more.

Mashburn was a high volume, low efficiency chucker.

Murray will have a better career.

I didn't see the Middleton comparisons early on, but now I do, only I think he can be a PF version of Middleton with better total defensive impact.

He mentioned Middleton as a guy he watches and models his game after. Out of all of the players in the NBA, that's a pretty mature response. If young athletic guys watched Middleton's footwork, feints, and subtlety to go along with their natural burst (which Middleton obviously doesn't have) they'd enjoy massive advantages.

I really like this pick for the kings over ivey. He was considered a consensus top 6 pick few weeks heading into the draft and my personal roy winner pre season. Him or banchero.

He does remind me of alot of players

Antwan Jamison

Hawkeye fan here.

I have watched Big Ten Basketball for nearly 30 years. He is the smoothest, least restrained guy I've ever seen in conference. Game came very natural to him. Effortless. His biggest critique we had was he wasn't more selfish. It will be really fun when he realizes just how good he could be. He would have put up huge numbers if he was asked to play to more minutes his freshmen year.

I think what's exciting about him is he loves to hoop. Money is great but thats not his driver. He's a student that is always trying to improve and his work ethic is phenomenal.

His big critiques are his ball handling and distribution ability but.. Iowa runs a system similar to GSW. At this point I do think you need to view that in Keegan's game as incompletes vs. failures. Iowa never asked him to be that guy. With his work ethic though, no doubt he at least becomes proficient in those attributes.

The idea his age means lower ceiling is absurd. When did every male have the same physical development timeline? He didn't cross the 6 foot height measure until his Junior year of high school. I still think he is growing into his current frame. Actually grew 1.5 inches while at Iowa. Do I think he gets taller? No, but.... His physical development in last three months is noticeable. His frame has filled out significantly. Looks bigger and more put together.

A less athletic, more cerebral Rudy Gay.

Godymas wrote:this whole thing about players being older than drafted has to be the stupidest thing to take over the league in terms of measuring a player's potential

Michael Jordan, Kareem, Tim Duncan, Larry Bird, Dame Lillard

what do these guys have in common with Keegan Murray, well they were all drafted later, around Keegan's age or older and they are all top 75 players of all time and 4 of the names listed are literal GOAT players.

As far as ceiling? Maybe Ray Allen

This is a brilliant point. I never really thought about it like that. Every year we have so many guys that get labeled “low ceiling” because they are 1-2 years older than most guys in the lottery. We have to start looking at other things besides that. Certain players develop differently. Curry is also one to be mentioned. It took him a few years to really blossom into the player he is now. After his rookie season, most thought Tyreke Evans was better than him. We all seen how that turned out
