Not if you include Rose

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=244fj587

then the lakers deal

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2kcfsout

Yeah, the thing about this is, it makes us super thin because we'd have to trade everyone

Granted, they're mostly overpaid, but still. Best case, we could keep one of Quick, McBride, or Grimes (Obi and Reddish plus two of those 3 probably have to be in for salary purposes)

So

Brunson/Westbrook
Mitchell/Grimes
RJ/Hunt
2 guys off the street
Mich/Hartenstein/Sims

Also, nobody signs in free agency anymore, so the cap space we'd have would just be for role players cause we wouldn't have the assets for stars, and Westbrook isn't gonna be happy coming off the bench all year

I don't love it.

If we did it would make us thin but we aren't necassarily winning year 1 of this trade anaway and I'm keeping Obi out of the trade and maybe we sign Melo so it would look like this.

Brunson/Westbrook
Mitchell/McBride
RJ
Obi/Melo
Mitch/Harenstein/Sims

yes we would need to find another backup wing off the street.

I see no way we keep Grimes in these talks..I think keeping Obi is more realistic then keeping Obi in the Utah trade.

Unless the Knicks really think someone is coming to team up with Mitchell and Brunson and RJ. Then make the Randle for Westbrook trade, but they got burned so many times I wouldn’t believe anyone is coming yet lol

this report is promising because it tells me the knicks don't think Randle fits long term...and that is a very good thing!

And this is also the way to act if you actually value him at the level of an untouchable asset - give him the max.. NOW! You give him the max now and he's off the table automatically. But that's not what the Knicks are doing. Why? What's going on in New York?

Would’ve rather traded RJ to Sac for Ivey, but if it’s for Mitchell, then there better be a serious reduction in picks being added and no other young core players. Just give Grimes the starting spot at sf in place of RJ.

This is precisely what I think is happening. Now, of course, we are all just reading tea leaves... but NYK are really not acting like they value Barrett at that level, even though they are saying they do. My point was... it's really simple to show how much you value your player who is supposedly untouchable. It's the way that will show with more than words that he is untouchable. But NYK is not doing it... why?

I think you are right and it's possible they are keeping him as a joker to include in the trade but in return give up a reduced pick haul.

Of course, that's again pure speculation on my part.

This is all very simple.

1) RJ definitely is not worth the max at this point, so there's no reason to sign him to it
2) However, RJ is still a player the Knicks want to see more of and potentially build around
3) RJ's value on the trade market is significantly less than his value to this Knicks FO
4) Because of this he's untouchable

You (and lots of others) are reading the "untouchable" tag in a way that it's not being applied. What it boils down to here is that the Knicks internal valuation of RJ Barrett is well in excess of the feedback they're getting on the trade market, so there's no way they're going to trade him.

And while I like him and think he can still develop, I'm not someone who is a big believer in him as a foundational piece - especially on his impending AAV increase. If he got dealt for something worthwhile, I'd be cool with it.

Not sure how it would work money wise but Conley + Randle to LA with Westbrook expiring to the Jazz would be great if it allowed us to retain Obi

Get some picks with Russ for randle re route those picks in Mitchell deal….let’s gooo

Please keep obi .

Brunson
Mitchel
Rj
Obi
Robinson / heart

I’m ok with this group, we obviously go nowhere but having massive cap space would allow us to be in play for another guy next year

Wow I don’t think you can afford to trade Randie for a more expensive worse player.
Leon already make a historically bad signing so maybe he trying to double down .

If we keep Obi then this becomes intriguing. Who could we possible get next year though with that 40M?

I have no clue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the fact that we get rid of Julius to free up time for Obi is all I need to hear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i also don't think this goes nowhere. you've gone from elfrid-bullock/burks-fournier to brunson-mitchell and from ball dominant randle to elite cutter/finisher obi. rj/mitch a wash, i think that's obviously a playoff team worthy of a 2023 free agent. i'd still rather keep cam than rj though

They’re guards. They’re supposed to be able to penetrate as well as shoot, which they both do. I get the questions regarding defense, but offensively?? That’s what people are complaining about?

Because your logic is if the team didn’t tank themselves or the tanked player isn’t on the roster then tanking wasn’t used for them. Like you used the Lakers as an example even tho Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball were two players in a trade that was used to trade for a player that was also tanked for. The only one I’ll give you is the Bucks in recent memory but the point of tanking is putting yourself in a better position to draft a Giannis. Bucks just got extremely lucky.

The Raptors likely don’t win a chip if KD doesn’t have a freak injury. Point is that it’s common sense that tanking leads to having a higher percentage chance of acquiring a generational talent. (Not definite but much higher) and if you just want to trade for Mitchell bc you’re like mpharris and you’re sick of hoping the FO will think differently than sure. But generational talents are usually found right at the top of the draft.

Lots of ifs and buts. The Lakers didn’t take for Davis so that’s irrelevant the team that drafted him did. How did that work out for the Pelicans?

Too many ifs and buts with the Raptors.

The Lakers didn’t tank for Kobe, Shaq or Gasol either.

The Top 5 players in the league right now:

Giannis
Luka
Doncic
Curry
Durant

Thunder tanked and didn’t win **** with Durant.

The Warriors didn’t tank for Curry.

The Bucks didn’t tank for Giannis.

The Mavs traded up.

The Nuggets didn’t tank for Jokic.

Clearly tanking isn’t necessary, which is my point. And right now, more teams have found their superstars without tanking. That’s a fact.

This is why I said you’re a lost cause. I am strictly going by the statistical probability that the higher you pick the more likely you’ll pick a generational talent. That’s all that I’m saying. Everything else is irrelevant. You don’t NEED to tank but it increases your chances of getting a great player that’s cost controlled. The Mavs still tanked. You are under the impression that tanking only means getting into the Top 3. The Warriors picked Steph 7th. He was still a lottery pick. The Thunder went to the Finals with KD when he was 22 so claiming they didn’t win **** is dumb but so is this back and forth.
