I think the team is very open to moving Randle in the right deal.

That deal isn't going to present itself until his value rehabs a bit.

He's basically our version of the Mavs Porzingis

Randle has no value
Unprotected picks do

In other news - water, wet.

Getting fired is not the worst thing in the world. It may be less damaging than getting ripped off, to your reputation. Plus he gets all his money probably.

If we get Donovan M., RJ and Randle are probably here for a couple of seasons till they see DM, JB and the R guys' (plus Mitch R) ceiling is 2nd round loss. Then one or more may depart. Along with Thibs.

But I'm coming to the view this is a necessary, and yes, positive, step. Just don't give up BOTH 2023 FRPs.

The longer this goes on, the better it is for the Knicks.

And look how hard the Knicks went to secure Brunson - they went as far as hiring his damn dad. Mitchell presumably wants to play here, but he's not exactly coming as a free agent.

Durant didn't sign with the Knicks. He signed with the Nets. It's a symptom of the problem, not an encouraging "almost", because the Nets aren't going anywhere, and they will always be a threat to attract players who would've otherwise signed with the Knicks. 2019 wasn't an aberration.

The market obviously favors the Knicks, generally-speaking. The fact that so many stars have turned them down in spite of their locale speaks of their incompetence and their reputation.

Melo did not grow up in NY and I don't think that's really why DM is interested, nor JB. I think you're wrong on all three my friend.

Melo spent the first eight years of his life in NY. It's not meaningless. He wanted to come home.

NBA stars have proven time and time again in the last 10 years they don't want to play for the Knicks. Even those who were interested in the market found better alternatives.

Brunson isn't a star, but he's a good player, and a step in the right direction in attracting star players. The Knicks threw the kitchen sink at him just to secure him, because they know nothing is guaranteed for the Knicks - and I fully support their efforts.

If they can acquire Mitchell, the Knicks will officially be back in business.

We're both right to an extent. My point is that history and common sense tell you the Knicks are still in good position to acquire guys. Losing did scare guys away, yes, but I wouldn't go so far as to say "time and time again." Who were the stars we lost? KD and Bron. LMA I guess can be added to the list. Lowry wanted to be traded to the Knicks. Melo came, DM wants to come.

You can't just say they're New Yorkers so that's it. KD obviously had interest and so did LBJ. The problem is that the top guys are also not the toughest guys as it turns out.

Yes you have to be willing to risk things to play for the Knicks. Nets lowered the risk and got them their market. For some guys, though, and I agree with you that things have softened up and the Knicks losing tips the scales some, the risk of failure on the biggest stage is what they're looking for. They want to feel that when they play.

If the Knicks were good, it helps. That's why the Lakers have gotten guys. A good blend of risk and reward. But, the reward is still there for guys to come to NY. Just takes a little more guts.

Time and time again seems overstated though.

How do you feel about this potential trade? It doesn't make sense to me from a synergistic standpoint. It just feels like it clutters and confuses things. I've soured on Mitchell the last two years.. he hasn't improved on literally anything he needs to improve upon to take him to that next level. He was greased by Jamal Murray in a series where yeah he got his but his assist to turnover ratio was almost 1 to 1. He got smoked by Jalen Brunson last season. He's got personality issues that prevented him from co-existing with Gobert. He can be an emotional wreck on the court sometimes and doesn't wear it well. I can in my mind definitively say this guy doesn't have "it" and isn't worth 6 FRPs. They should just be focused on trading Randle.

What we don’t know since there were zero rumors is how long the negotiations took on the Gobert trade..

Yes it could go that way. The longer it drags out also allows for a mystery team to put together a good offer and trade for him right from under us

Possible. I just think we are confident enough in our offer that another team won’t come in and match or beat it. Don’t try and compete with yourself in these negotiations.

What mystery teams outside of OKC have a stash of draft picks?

You're right. The maddening thing is we have no real clue what's actually going on. All we have are bare bones leaks out of Utah. That's being a fan though. Endless speculation without really knowing anything

Return to New York Knicks
