The picks you get from the Knicks are not determined by "the national media guys" - it's determined by what the Knicks accept. I learned that in business school.

None of those teams have the draft capital we do and that is what he wantsctorres wrote:Knick4Real wrote:ctorres wrote:Teams have access to software that can formulate every hypothetical trade scenario for them.
The longer this goes without a deal getting done, the less likely a trade happens.
It should not take this long for a series of offers and counter offers to result in a trade that works for both teams.
INCORRECT!!
This is not just some standard trade. This is Ainge attempting to get 2-3 more assets than even his software suggested just so he can maintain his "I Always Win And Get What I Want" reputation. Rose knows better and recognizes he has the better package than any other team. So, he can afford to wait for Ainge to be reasonable.
Rose is not going to accept any ol' deal just because the fans are getting restless. After all, he was one of the best agents/negotiators in the business and knows how the game is played. I presume he's playing this out exactly as it should be.
By now, wouldn't Ainge have sent emails to every front office in the NBA?
I remember in 2007, the KG to Boston trade was leaked to realgm forums, and only a few days later it was official.
Who are Ainge's allies in the NBA currently? We are assuming that he won't make deals with the Heat because of Riley, or the Lakers, or maybe not even the Celtics.

Donovan isn’t going to be the only Jazz player of quality dealt this summer.
They are listening to offers on Bojan, receiving trade interest for Clarkson and I wouldn’t be surprised if a team would trade for Conley (contract and all).
Ainge might be shrewd, but he’s not as clever as he thinks. This guy 100% wants to tank for Victor or at least be in the damn running.
Holding onto Donovan for a few months will put a massive dent in his plans.
This deal is going to get done. But hold firm on that 2029. He can’t get it. We cannot cave on that.

Yea, Randle moving ASAP is non-negotiable to me if we bring Donovan in.ibraheim718 wrote:GONYK wrote:ibraheim718 wrote:
How do you feel about this potential trade? It doesn't make sense to me from a synergistic standpoint. It just feels like it clutters and confuses things. I've soured on Mitchell the last two years.. he hasn't improved on literally anything he needs to improve upon to take him to that next level. He was greased by Jamal Murray in a series where yeah he got his but his assist to turnover ratio was almost 1 to 1. He got smoked by Jalen Brunson last season. He's got personality issues that prevented him from co-existing with Gobert. He can be an emotional wreck on the court sometimes and doesn't wear it well. I can in my mind definitively say this guy doesn't have "it" and isn't worth 6 FRPs. They should just be focused on trading Randle.
I agree with everything you say about Mitchell. I've said numerous times that he's not one of my favorite players or someone I consider a superstar.
That being said, I think he's a top 20-25ish player and a top 10 scorer right now.
I also think he's available at a discount when you consider his age and the years left on his deal. If we trade 5 picks for him, but only 2 are NYK picks, that isn't a bad deal on value. I have more of an issue trading young players for him than I do those protected picks.
I also view a Mitchell acquisition as a move that makes unloading Randle mandatory. So if we need to have one pouty pseudo-star, I'd rather the one that is a bonafide scorer.
I also think Brunson has shown he can play off ball both in college and in Dallas. He has to shoot/make more pull up 3's to really unlock his next tier but if his C&S %'s hold on volume, I think he and Mitchell can work together offensively. Plus, they will be staggered.
The real player getting smushed out in all this will be RJ
If getting rid of Randle is part of the deal then I'm all for it. But fans should temper their expectations and really realize who they're getting. Mitchell and the Jazz were up against Denver 3-1 and Murray absolutely wrecked them and they hid Mitchell the whole time... his effort the few times he did match up with Murray he gave an appalling level of effort and he vanished early in game 7.
I'm not sure what expectations others have, but to me, this move wouldn't be the one that moves the Knicks into anything close to contention. It's really to enable future moves with players that have more value than the starters we had a year before.

he wants to actually tank. once he traded gobert and opened shop on Donovan there's no turning back
hes gotta wipe it clean or else the locker room will be a circus with the media next year. no coach or Donovan Mitchell is gonna want to be answering stupid rebuilding or "have you asked for a trade" questions. you cant ask your young players to be a team around DM who is probbably going to get traded. this is not like Harden who leads the locker room. it'll be chaos unless DM comes out and says "I dont want to be traded", which we know won't happen.
won't happen.

4 picks, 5 picks
some combo of obi/Grimes/mcbride/ iq
I dont want to say is "fair" but sometimes you are only worth what someone is willing to pay.
with Gobert, Ainge had no choice-- he was offered something he couldn't refuse, and Timberwolves knew it too-- you cant ask for a guy who isn't being on the trading block for a "fair " price. you overpay-- thats what the wolves did.
with DM, Ainge similarly has no choice-- he needs to maximize the spreadsheet and that means tanking. Especially if the new CBA discourages tanking or makes the pingpong balls more distributed-- tanking is the right choice because he already traded Gobert.
Ainge made his bed once he traded Gobert, and now he will understand that he cant look at both trades through the same lens-- but rather he will in time look back on both trades as 1 trade.

Guy hasn't caught on that this board runs on 99% sarcasm.
I mean, I thought a lot of the net is like that, but maybe he's slow. Probably too sincere as a result of cultish religiosity.
