First off, I love Presti. I think he’s the best GM out there. I like most of the OKC kids like SGA, Holmgren (i had him #1 on my mock), Jalen Williams and Dieng.
But I do think Giddey is a sell high candidate. He averaged .25 3pt per game, 13ppg on 13 FGAs. Yes, he’s gonna MCW/Ben Simmons/Westbrook his way to a triple double but he’s not a PG that you can just give the ball and run the offense because of his average at best scoring ability and poor shooting ability.
Yes, Giddey can be better. Maybe he becomes Doncic next week. But its very likely he’ll never be a good scorer and shooter that is just gonna hurt your team’s offense at the PG position
Absolutely agree. I love him as a player, but he is likely to be more Ricky Rubio than someone like Doncic. And that's not a bad thing, he will have a place in this league, but unless he shows he can shooter better this season and perhaps next, you need to trade him while his value is high.
I don't think you can have a legitimate competitive team, without having your guards shoot the ball at a decent clip, no matter how good he is in other areas of the game.
We’ve seen this movie before.
Thunders will eventually be good. Giddey will facilitate and get the ball to their scorers like SGA and Holmgren.
But once they go to deep in the playoffs and face teams who load up on switchable defenders or elite lengthy with athleticism defenders (see Wiggins against Tatum), their scorers will struggle. Possibly Giddey’s man sagging off him and even be a permanent help defender. Then they’d look for a guy who can help their scorers get better shots, a guard who can run 2 man game generate switching to the weak defender or collapse the defense and kicking it out to shooters.
Once they realize that, they’ll be so exposed that other teams wont value Giddey as much as the teams value him right now.
Yep, who knows though. Lonzo Ball out of nowhere become a really good 3 point shooter, which I would have never expected, so there is still hope yet.
