So saying he won't play enough games to be worthy of his contract, is a contradiction of reality.
The less he plays, the more worthy he'll be of his contract, because he'll be more rested and more able to dominate the playoffs.

He did that last year as he always does.

I figure he’s got maybe 100 games left an an elite level, which translates into one playoff run, unless he rests for 50+ games each regular season.

Declines can happen very quickly, even for superstars, and they’re unpredictable. KG went from 12th in MVP voting to 6.5 PPG the following season. Kobe went from All-NBA 1st to sub .500 TS% after age 34.

He'll have another year or two of semi-prime KD, but then the decline will happen.

He will be a top 5 player in the NBA for 1-2 more years. Then decline to being a top 10 player after. He rapidly declines by time he turns 37.

His contract at this point is an albatross. I'd love to have him back on the Warriors but he is so overpriced. Come back home KD....

KD’s already come back to the pack along with LBJ. he’s not really a 3-level scorer anymore, and his defence is once again overrated. I think Giannis is clearly better now and I’d bet Kawhi is better next season too, but that’s probably it. He’s with Curry and Jokic and Embiid for me in tier 2. LBJ is probably in there as well.

I’d be betting on two elite years, hopeful for 3, mentally prepared for 1 or even 0. You don’t know when the final injury is going to come.

Orlando Magic trade Terrence Ross, Jalen Suggs, Markelle Fultz, and unprotected picks to Brooklyn to pair up KD with Paolo and Franz Wagner

In their third game of the season KD drives to the rim and Banchero pulls up ready to catch an offensive rebound because he expects KD to have issues finishing at the rim. Indian Pacers Russell Westbrook jumps up in anticipation of getting the board and Banchero fights him pushing WB into KD. WB lands at an awkward angle pushing KD's leg backward and messing up the same achilles again. KD is now sidelined for the rest of the 2022-2023 season. Orlando miss the playoffs and their unprotected pick becomes the #1 pick in the 2023 draft with Brooklyn uses to take Victor Wembanyama. KD comes back for the 2024 season and plays just 20 games on reduced production as his athleticism is gone. Orlando Magic and KD agree to a buyout and KD teams up with the Warriors who have now 3 peated without KD in one last hope of proving he's worth anything in this league. 4 weeks into the season Draymond Green attempts to do a skip pass through KD's legs to get an open Steph and the ball hits KD squarely in his balls. KD is sidelined and then informed by team medical staff that he might have future reproduction issues and Draymond used far too much force when throwing the ball. KD is then informed that if he plays at the NBA level he might risk being able to ever have kids. For KD ball is life and so KD continues to play. Then Mar 25, 2025 KD and the Warriors are going against a prime Nuggets roster. KD gets a switch and Demarcus Cousins is guarding him. As KD attempts to get some space Demarcus swipes forward and the ball is knocked backwards right into KDs groin. KD is then informed by the doctors that he will never be able to have children again and likely it is not safe for him to step on an NBA court.

KD retires from the game of basketball and goes on a world tour with Kyrie as the two consume a ton of ayahuasca and play 2k together in fancy resorts.

I expect him to put up at least 25 ppg each season on unreal efficiency for the duration of that contract. I expect the decline to be hardly noticeable at all, based on his body type and style of play.

His durability, however, will continue to be in question.

I predict he starts the season with the Nets and is traded after Jan 15th and before the trade deadline.

He will go to Phoenix, Miami or Toronto in that order. Likely to Phoenix for Ayton, Bridges, Johnson plus picks etc.

I predict he wins one championship with the Phoenix suns during his 4 year tenure. He’ll get close another year, and 2 of the years will be lost to injuries to either him or CP3 around playoff time.

Yeah, that’s probably what happens with Durant.

That's as good a guess as I've seen on here.

But hey, any team that wants to trade is expected to send out what ever stars they have, what ever young prospects, every first and second rounder with every swap possible, the coach, the GM, the dancers and the team mascot for one guy

Oh, that was the best. It was amazing so many people thought KD was given a heads up before it was coming. He was not happy.

This forum thought that KD would be Khris Middleton level of production after he tore his achilles. I don't think anyone has any idea about what KD will look like over next 4 years. Lebron just averaged 30 PPG at age 37, CP3 had a great year at age 36, Steph just won Finals MVP at age 34. People need to readjust their views regarding aging elite players.

not sure if that's comparable. granted kobe torn his achilles at a later stage than durant. and load management was less of a thing even in kobe's final years in the league. so maybe they can preserve durant's health a little better moving forward with rest and recovery.

I don't think Kobe is a good parallel for Durant physically or mentally. Physically Durant's extra height makes adjusting for injuries much easier. Mentally, Kobe had probably the worst adjustment to aging/decline of any major superstar in my lifetime. Efficiency wasn't as important to his generation and shot attempts were more. So he chucked to get his numbers up. It was partly the fault of the organization but he was allowed to play like a fool his final few years, logging big minutes.

Durant will never get that treatment. His generation takes pride in efficiency more. And no organization will ever feel about Durant the way the Lakers did Kobe.

I think last year was his final season as a guy you could build a contender around. I expect that he'll be injured for a majority of the next two seasons and I wouldn't bet $10 that he plays out the rest of his contract.

And it isn't even just the achilles; go back and look at Durant's injury history. We're talking about a 34 yo, 6'10" dude that runs and cuts like a guard with a long and varied list of injuries.

Lebron's ability to successfully fend off father time and continue to play major minutes as a top10 guy in the league at 37 is virtually unparalleled and is blurring your vision. He is an outlier outlier. And even he has lost like 2 of the last 3 seasons to injury. Expecting that level of health from Kevin Durant is nonsense. Chris Paul is still a basketball genius, but the notion that he can make it to the Finals healthy enough to have a positive impact is just as laughable.

The fact that his jumper is wetter than wet and indefensible will help keep him relevant, but not for long enough stretches to matter.

Why is it that all of a sudden we are expecting every player in the league to add an extra 3 or 4 years to their prime?
