Big IF but if the Knicks acquire Don and do this right , this picks down the road will be outside of the lottery.
5 years down the road (2027), RJ will be late 20s and Don will just be entering his 30s. Of course they will need another star to go along Don but it’s a start.

It might be a minor negotiating point, but if all the pundits think the Wolves "going in" is so completely kick ass, with better size in the backcourt and "oh, rebounding and shotblocking/rim protection was why they got bounced" (nice reflection on KAT), and this solves it, then at least in 23/25, unprotected picks mean jack sh*t and Knicks picks will probably be better, since it seems to be a thing at least 1/3 of the board thinks is that it's a "midget backcourt with a sh*tty mix of players"
Cool. Knicks first rounders in 23 and 25 more valuable.
Knick 27 pick more valuable because the dropoff should happen faster and from a closer point.
Wolves and Knicks 29 pick - if the Knicks include it because see above, equal value because at that point, who knows.
It's not some giant negotiating point. Ainge is going to want and deserve multiple draft picks for Mitchell. It might be enough to reasonably claw back a couple of the "other team" picks the Knicks have that Ainge asked for - if he did.
Again, repeating myself, like we all are, and multiple people have posted: Knicks and Jazz are negotiating over the amount of picks vs young players included, which players are included and which picks.
There are future pick(s) the Knicks are trying to maintain and probably a specific player or two (besides RJ who isn't going) and Knicks would love to win on all three accounts but know they won't, and who knows what their preferred position is. I'd assume some balance between having the right pieces to compete now, not that the youth are awesome, just which ones they value the most based on ability but also fit, and then there is a pick they'd rather not surrender - and it's probably 2029, but there could be a reason they want to hold onto...I don't know, 2025 - for some tactical team building reason in the middle of their theoretical run with DMitch

Post Allstar break averaged 24 ppg and for the year improved his PER from the year before.
While the shooting efficiency dipped his overall PER went up so you can make a argument his volume (20 ppg)and efficiency went up in an important developmental year.
My ceiling comp for RJB was James Harden and I’ve been proud of him to exhibit that many times last season even scoring 46 points 1 game. Post all star break provided positive +\- play on top his 24 ppg.
Generational ? No.
Franchise ? Maybe if he maintains his ceiling that he has flashed .
Transcendent? In my belief he can be a transcendent guard. He can provide things that many other nba guards could not. Size and aggression and finishing ability .
As a small forward his attributes appear to become more average. Your more afraid of bullocks is shooting a 3. As a SF his drive is theoretically more defended .

Part of the problem as to why this deal isn’t done is because the marginal talent that this fan base overrates like Obi, IQ, Grimes, and Cam doesn’t nearly have the value around the league like our fan base wants to think it has, so in Ainge’s mind his debate might be i want another first I don’t really care for IQ, Rose thought is I’m giving you IQ they should mean one less 1st rounder. To me that’s been the holdup how does Ainge value the Knicks young players compared to Leon and the rest of the league

You're overthinking it.
The Rudy haul let's you know what's holding up the deal: Ainge wants to rape. Knicks don't want to be raped.
Nothing more nothing less.

Disagree, Ainge wants what he perceives as value, and most likely picks, Rose might rather give up more picks and hold onto younger players, where as Ainge doesn’t value the players as much as the picks so they are trying to figure out a mix that works. But as I said before my guess is Rose is thinking a player like IQ is worth taking away one of the first you are asking for Ainge isn’t sold on IQ or some of the others and wants both the player and the pick

RJ is a leader. This may not be factored in most of the time, but a team needs them

Ainge couldn't care less about young talent.
Ainge wants a boat load of unprotected picks and filler to tank for a superstar.

Also, the sooner the deal gets done, the more it means we caved. I hope it drags out. Just because the Wolves are ridiculous (can Towns even play the four??) does not mean we need to make that the benchmark.

Re: Donovan Mitchell Thread #6 - Something might actually happen in this one!!!!!!
It would be safe to say that Ainge always wants way too much and, the Knicks aren't willing to pay his ridiculous price. I don't mind the wait in that regard. Does anyone want to pay the Gobert price? Exactly.
6 picks plus youth? FOH. Mitchell will want out sooner than later. Then the leverage is lost. That doesn't mean you get mugged doing a deal now. Hold out until the Jazz are forced to take the deal the Knicks are willing to make. Common sense. Utah is most likely looking to tank hard for VW. They can keep DM if they want to but, he definitely hurts those chances.

Or, counterpoint, it's generally viewed as inevitable, so people are just jumping the gun without confirmation in order to have the clout of calling it first.

Yea, I am expecting this to drag out and maybe even the KD trade gets done first. I don’t see Ainge budging right now, so probably a bad sign if it gets done immediately. Say if KD goes to Miami, or anywhere…that may help us since I am sure it’ll take less picks then Ainge is currently asking for.
Just preparing for the long wait and when it gets done it gets done
