Prime Mighty Mouse is what this current Raptor team needs offensively. Stoudamire was more of a true PG than FVV and could break down a defense better than Fred.

Give me Damon Stoudamire from his 1st 5/6 yrs in the NBA.

It's about who the better player is though. Damon was never a better player than Fred. Fred is significantly better in nearly every facet of basketball than Damon was.

You always take the better player.

Hated losing him so early, was young and didn't understand the business side. He had a solid career.

The Wizard! I used to wear knee high socks like him. Another guy that I think would thrive in today's nba.

A rookie point guard who comes in and averages 20/8 nightly, winning ROY, and is an instant fan favorite.

Having such promising talent early on in Damon, Tmac, and Vince really allowed the Raps to survive. All the players came in and actually played games. We're so lucky they didn't pull a Steve Francis on us or we might have had the same fate as the Grizzlies.

Theres a bit of misinformation in there. As far as I recall, even without VC, there was no risk of the Raps getting relocated. The problem with the Grizzlies is that the corporate community back then wasn't big enough to find another viable buyer in the Vancouver area. They tried to sell to the owner of the Blues and ultimately sold to Heisley. Neither of whom had ties to Vancouver.

Once the Leafs bought the Raps, that sealed the deal that they wouldn't go anywhere. Maybe if the previous takeover attempt by Zeke had come to fruition, that might have opened the door for relocation but thankfully, Slaight held on until the Leafs stepped up.

Gotta take expansion days Stoudamire performance with grain of salt. He was typical case of a player putting up stats on a bad team, which is supported by the fact that he fizzled hard once he got to an actual good team in Portland and never lived up to the billing or the contract he received after he got there.

But only in hindsight. Jesus couldn't wait to leave, kinda felt like he was just going through the motions with us.

Damon was the odd case where he won Rookie of the Year but ended up not being one of the top players of his class when all was said and done.

Not the worst rookie of the year though. Would easily take him over MCW.

Can we just make a “I’m insecure. An American mentioned Canada or Toronto” thread! Do we need one of these every time someone says something bad or good about us. Believe in yourself, in your country. Who cares what others think

No one wants to stay in a place with 6 months of winter... just ask Tmac and Kawhi... if you are American born black from warm weather states... they will bolt first chance, with rare exceptions... to southern US destinations. not every superstar is Giannis... now you are even seeing this for American born HOCKEY PLAYERS, LOL....

So many of our pieces in the next era can be tied back to the Damon Stoudamire trade (and what we flipped Kenny Anderson and then Chauncey Billups for)

- Alvin Williams
- Morris Peterson
- Antonio Davis
- Dee Brown
- Kevin Willis to Keon Clark

Fair comment except we don’t hear that same narrative for the plethora of other NBA cities with comparable winter weather: NY, Boston, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minny, Cleveland, Philly, etc.

Don’t get me wrong: the cold and taxes here are a deterrent but we aren’t the only NBA city with these issues. We just get a disproportionate amount of negative attention for them.
