When was Durant's peak for you?

Post#1 » by Deivork » Fri Jul 22, 2022 7:03 pm

Between the oddness of joining such stacked team as the '16 Warriors, his athletic peak being in his early 20s and the fact that his attitude seemed to be more joyful with the Thunder I tend to think his best version was when he was in OKC. Guy was an absolute killer.

What do you think is his peak and why?

Oh and here's an amazing battle against Nowitzki and the Mavs for the remembrance.

Its a tough question. For me, I was most awed by Durant in that 2012 WCF against the Spurs. He averaged 29.5 pts, 7.5 rbs, 5.3 asts, 1.5 blks and 1.7 stls on 58% eFG% with a 129 ORtg and 108 DRtg, all against a Spurs team that had won 18 games in a row including sweeping the first two rounds. With the Thunder down 2-1 in the series and up 4 going into the 4th quarter, he scored 18 points in the 4th quarter to ultimately tip that series in OKC's favor. He defended at a higher level in Golden State and put up bigger numbers in that 2021 series against the Bucks, but I personally think he peaked younger in OKC.

2014 was his peak.

I think deep inside even KD knew it by the time he decided to join up with the high school varsity team to beat on the 6th graders. He had seen his best and knew it wasn't good enough.

played his best defense on the warriors, and was at his most versatile in gsw. 2017-18 kd was just a monster even if the numbers look better in other years.

If you ask this question last year this time, many might say Brooklyn.

2012-2016 was his peak. Hard to really take his GSW peak seriously when he had peak Curry garnering most teams entire defensive attention

The Warriors. All around he was great in passing, defending, scoring, getting to the rim etc. Nobody will give him credit tho since he joined the warriors.

The way I see it
OKC: Most athletic (He could easily get to the rim before his foot injury where he lost a bit of the burst)
GSW: Best all- around
BKN: Best shooting numbers

He wasn’t any different in GS than his late OKC years, the game just got easier for him with the Warriors. I’d say he peaked his last couple of seasons with OKC. He was terrifying back then, the Durantula and Slim Reaper were apt nicknames for him.

He was a beast in OKC but played in a system that didn't bring the best out of his entire game. With Gstate, he was able to show more of his off ball game including his defense too so this has to be the correct answer here.

Uhhh, yes I think so. Coming off averaging 35 PPG against the Bucks in an epic series, then leading a subpar team USA to Olympic gold.

2014, I think his handles were more secure due to not relying on Westbrook for playmaking.

His 2015 season was insane before injury

Similar to how first stint Cavs Lebron was probably the most unstoppable version of Lebron, but Miami Lebron was the most complete Lebron we have seen. A perfect blend of athleticism and skill.

Were seeing the same thing with Durant IMO. He was far more unstoppable in OKC, dude could drop 30 in his sleep. He was just deadly. GSW Durant was better rounded IMO. He really excelled as a playmaker and defender while still being one of the more dangerous scorers in the league.

Best season he ever played was his 2nd year with the Warriors. His offensive game had fully adapted to the Warriors system and he was also playing All-NBA level defense.

Those were 2 separate years, keep in mind.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.
