I had to look up his age...that's crazy he's 84. He looks like he's in amazing shape. If you would have told me he's 70 I'd believe you. He will hopefully live to 100

I understand his point, but Jerry is basically saying only the greats can competently talk basketball. That’s just not true. If you make it to the league, your opinion on ball should be revered. But that’s just me. Keep doing your thing JJ!

Damn, some well made points in there.

- players didnt have access to training centers like today, we had to work all summer to support our families

- JJ still isnt guarding any of the elite players from that time

Yeah it's not really a good response at all. Also, JJ's point is about the lower quality of competition and West goes on to talk about how he was more athletic than anyone else at the time. It kind of helps make JJ's point.

West is on point to call out a **** take… nowadays the biggest and loudest voices get the attention instead of the most informed. There is a reason why Fox News and CNN and MSNBC get ratings compared to headline news , PBS, CSPAN,BBC, and etc. Any former player now has an outlet to let the world hear what want to say. There is a reason why people loved John Madden because he was a every man who actually knew what he was saying and didn’t come off as a douche towards people. Most commentators have that aura about them esp Reddick. Oh and I know West was a world class douche but his overarching point is true.

JJ wouldn't last in the 'Plumber and fireman' era.

He was a scrub in the 00's and only found relevance in the league as the it transitioned to the 3 ball and defensive rules changed. Even then, JJ was only a role player. He made that comment as if he could survive in an earlier era. If someone else said it, like a Lebron, sure. But JJ Reddick needs to learn his place when taking shots at older eras.

West obviously took it as a personal dig at him and his contemporaries, which is understandable. That's why he took a personal dig at JJ himself, saying he's nowhere near their level, or whatever.

People should remember that West, for much as he's perceived as a respectful and gracious man, has always been kind of a high maintenance ego (even long after his playing days).

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Lmao thats hilarious actually. West can be a bit ornery at times but in this specific case he's well within his rights to call out JJ for a dumb take.

Wanna see Oscar and Russell lay into him next.

If that is your takeaway then his point flew completely over your head.

JJ is one of the best NBA analysts in the game today, but he's talks bball every day, so he's going to have some bad takes.

Comparing eras is always a fools errand. Players should only be analyzed by how they competed in their own era, period.

It's odd because both JJ and West are right in this situation...

You have to love the arrogance of modern athletes. Who is to say that Jim Thorpe or Jesse Owens would not be the greatest athletes if they were alive today?

Modern athletes benefit from a host of things, modern medicine, scientific advances, better equipment, etc... when my grandfather was playing sports they told them not to drink water! Heck there was an Olympic marathon once were the runners were nearly killed by idiotic advice. So yes, of course these guys were not putting up the numbers we see today. What this doesn't mean though is that given what modern athletes have to work with today they wouldn't be capable of the same things, or... even better things.
