I watched a movie called Colossal last night on HBO. Man, that thing was a trip lol. It stars Anne Hathaway and Ted Lasso and the premise is they realize they're somehow controlling giant monsters that are attacking Seoul, South Korea. I didn't love where the plot went in the 2nd half of the film but I'd still recommend it if you're in the mood for something very different.

Under The Banner of Heaven is really good. FX on Hulu. It's a Mormon detective trying to solve a murder case with Mormons involved, based on a non-fiction book. You get a murder mystery, learn a lot of (crazy) Mormon history and the detective starts questioning his faith. So it's multi-layered and I found it really gripping. I didn't even know Andrew Garfield was a good actor but he was excellent and showed a lot of emotional range. Caveat that if you're a devout Mormon you are probably not going to enjoy it in the same way I did, or at all really.

Got through 3 episodes last night. Being a HS History teacher, I am familiar with much of the history of the Mormons, so this is very interesting to see it in the modern world to a degree. Also, cool to see the book by Jon Krakauer. I've read "Into the Wild" a few times and I love the soundtrack by Eddie Vedder.

The Responder (6 episodes) is worth a watch if you think you'd enjoy a little night-shift cop drama riddled with anxiety and set in Liverpool. Terrific acting by Martin Freeman, Adelayo Adedayo, and all around actually. Also, you can tell a cop wrote this story in both it's strengths and weaknesses.
It's a fun little show. Maybe you need brit box if you don't get your shows in different way.

Haha, I don't believe I knew either. Someone else is a teacher on here but I can't remember who. Which is not a surprise.

I'm training to be something close to what you'd call a medical assistant and had my first intro-day today at my new job in what resembles what you'd call homecare. I'll probably work with both elderly with dementia but also persons, elderly and some young, with addiction and mental health issues.
Pretty psyched for this. In this field I've worked unlicensed with autism and learning disability before so this is a new challenge for me with more long term work security.
Anyone else working in social or medical care here? I'd like to and-1 your takes. If the teachers are doing it yknow..

I finished watching season 1 of Barry last night. Fantastic show, can't believe I took this long to actually watch it (though it's probably for the best, now I can binge 3 seasons' worth of episodes instead of waiting every week). It's really hilarious, I love how it shows the pretentiousness of wannabe actors while at the same time making us sympathize with them as people who are merely pursuing their dreams, no matter how pathetic they end up being.

It's still hard for me to suspend my disbelief that Bill Hader is playing a hitman and former Marine (I mean, look at Bill Hader lol), but he's brilliant in the show. Sarah Goldberg as his completely selfish and stuck-up girlfriend is brilliant too, and Henry Winkler as their acting coach is just inspired casting. I also love how short the episodes are lol.

I got into For All Mankind on Apple a week or two ago and really been enjoying it. It's a drama about astronauts set in an alternate history where the space race vs the Soviets never ended.

I wondered if it would be boring at first but a ton of exciting stuff happens in season 1. I wouldn't really call it sci-fi (it is in some ways but not others and it's a drama more than anything), but there are some cool scenes in space and on the moon etc. Very good story, well acted, suspenseful and worth a watch. I'm pretty hooked at the moment.

Gives me Man in the High Castle vibes; another revisionist history drama that came out from Amazon Prime a few years ago. Loved that show. Extremely well written. This one's in my queue as well so thanks for the review.

One of the best shows last decade imo.
