that's fine, we wouldn't want him carrying a team on his back anymore and that's the only way he can be an all NBA player. we should hope he averages like 16 and 8 with 3 or 4 assists a game, to me that would be good from the pf position. Maybe that's not worth what they're paying him but that's about what you'd want out of a 3rd or 4th option, you'd basically want his stats to drop like chris bosh 2013 2014 after he joined the heat, he wasn't putting up the numbers he did in Toronto but that was good for the team. I think there's a better chance randle respects players like brunson and donovan to let them run the show

You don't have to twist Obi's arm and put him through emotional therapy sessions to make him embrace a role as 4th option to hit those numbers on very good efficiency....

Damn good point, also post all-star break Obi averaged 14ppg on 39 touches per game.




Obi is a finisher, you set him up, he finishes the plays. What is more likely to mesh with two ball dominant PnR creators, the finisher, or the ball dominant PF.

I wonder why this argument didn't work for Mitch all summer as dudes were chomping at the bit. Dude probably has the highest points per touch on the team while averaging 8 pts.

So if we do get Donovan.... He's the #1 option and Brunson is #2? Takes the ball out of Randles hands and the pressure off both him and RJ. Does Randle adjust well playing off the ball most of the time? Does Thibs let the guards run the show? How long does it take the team to mesh together? How well does the PnR with Mitchell look?

Kemba and Evan were supposed to be an improvement last year. Oops. This team should look much better up and down the lineup adding these guys. I expect the team to look better with Brunson alone so...DM makes us that much better in theory.

Where are you getting +250 off the bench for Burks? He was +43 this year, and +130 last year off the bench.


Burks actually had a better +/- per game this year as a starter than he did as a bench player, which kind of hurts your point

Burks had a positive +/- as a back-up and as a starter.

He was the only starter with a positive +/-, for the whole season, and even when isolating the period from November 27 where he effectively became a starter.

But it's not really that surprising that he had a positive impact in both roles, since he's an elite 3-point shooter and a good defender. The combination of those two qualities is what you want most from your role players. Burks was the best and arguably the only two-way player in the starting line-up. It's a sad reality, but a reality nonetheless, until the other starters get their head up their ass and start playing two-way ball again.

Not sure,and I don't want to fall into that diversionary rabbit hole....The original point is that all indicators show that OBI should at least be given a chance to start.

Last year team defenses would double Randle and force him into a turnover. This season he should get more 1-1 matchups. If he wins those the Knicks will look much better. RJ will probably be the guy left open so he needs to be a better shooter than before.

I'm an RJ fan, but he's always had that tunnel vision. It's like he's made his mind up that "this possession" he's definitely going to the hoop. Been that way since forever. Sucks because he's a good passer... is what it is at this point. You'd hope new guys like Mitchell and Brunson will resolve some of that.
