Whos the GOAT franchise?

Post#1 » by Jfh20 » Mon Jul 25, 2022 1:40 am

seriously we always debate whos goat but this one is more interesting and different... i was thinking this today... in international football, brazil has dominated football and won the most world cups in history... but in the nba, its more complicated to measure this feat cuz the nba only had 8 teams in the past so i think you'd have to measure it from 1990 to 2022....who is the goat franchise?? gime your top 5, in order with 1 being the greatest.

5-miami heat - under wade, the heat managed to win 3x title in the modern era.
4-San Antonio Spurs - under duncan the spurs dominated the modern era and have been one of the most successfull franchises in the nba.
3- Golden State warriors - the curry era has been nice, and made its mark on the league. i put them at #3.
2- L.A lakers - the lakeshow with kobe has been gets the spot at #2. there the closest to the bulls.
1- Chicago Bulls - Despite being completely irrelevant lately, there my goat franchise and has the most impressive feat the nba has seen. Jordan and the Bulls are da goats.

i wish i could put lebrons cavs here, but he only managed to win 1 title with a superteam... oh well

I don't think Chicago is the GOAT franchise at all. What other thing relevant other than drafting Jordan and Rose they did? And even after drafting Rose, they had terrible luck with that injury and struggled to put up a strong and competitive team. The Warriors for me are the GOAT franchise, they've always have found some success and for the past 8 years they're on top of it.

Should really include the 80s as well.

It's between the Celtics and Lakers. They are the greatest rivalry in Basketball History period. Which goes decades longer than what MJ and the Bulls accomplished. So that's my pick. Those two in a tie.

Warriors were one of the absolute worst franchises for basically 20+ years of this 30 year period. Yes, success lately but they looked like the Kings for decades...

The Lakers are my answer
50's 70's 80's 00's, 20's.

Dominant teams, plus a FA destination because of its history. If you eliminated/vacated the Lakers from the NBA, the history of the association would be Thanos' snapped.

We all hate to admit it but it's the Lakers. They are the face of the league and have the strongest brand in the NBA. They were irrelevant for years, posting losing records for multiple seasons, and still managed to sign Lebron James. All NBA media completely revolves around them. Tied for most championships. Relevant in pretty much every era. Not even close IMO even with the Celtics matching their ring total, Bulls 90's run, Spurs longevity, and the Warriors recent success.

i cant put the warriors over the bulls or even lakers. they only won 4, bulls won 6 and two three peats, lakers won 5... all more impressive than the warriors. yes the warriors have had success as of late, but were was the warriors in the 90s? or 00s?

the reason i put chicago as da goat is because of the 90s runs... no team, and i mean even the lakeshow, has been able to replicate wat the bulls were able to accomplish. the 90s bulls was the greatest dynasty the nba has ever seen and wat they accomplished no team can come close to it. ya i kno there irrrelevant in todays nba, but if we are including the 90s they are at top.

They won something like four playoff series over a 35-year span, including a single appearance over nearly two decades. Before this recent rebound -- one of the league's greatest runs, without any question whatsoever -- they were one of the most consistently mediocre, inconsequential teams in not just the NBA but all of US professional sports.

Some of y'all aren't reading the OP, which asks which franchises have been best since 1990. The thread title is misleading, though, since 'GOAT' and 'greatest of the last 32 years' aren't the same.

1.) Bulls (amazing that they're #1 entirely for their work during the first 25% of the period in question)
2.) Spurs
3.) Lakers (Spurs get the edge over the Lakers for being an uninterrupted dynasty [in my opinion-- I know, I know, some of y'all disagree])
4.) Warriors (they get love on the back end of the period in question just like the Bulls do on the front end)
5.) Heat

My all-time ranking:

1.) Lakers
2.) Celtics
3.) Bulls
4.) Spurs
5.) Warriors

im ok with puttin lakers at #1, they have tons of success in the modern era, but why the celtics? they won 1 title... and have been on the losing ends almost always.

I wouldn't put the Spurs at the very top, but I've always been amazed at their consistency, not just during the Duncan era. They were never honest, serious contenders before that, but they almost always had really good teams. Before this recent bottoming out, they missed the playoffs four times in almost 50 years since moving to San Antonio. That's an incredible feat. Of course the Lakers did pretty much the exact same thing before being banished to the desert post Kobe, with many more championships to show for it. But we obviously have more advantages as a free agent hot spot.

The second list is my all-time list; the first list is my 'best since 1990' list.

Since 90 it should be Lakers/Bulls, Spurs, Warriors, then Heat.
