Wait... now people are claiming that it's being said the Knicks have all the leverage? You mean at the same time people are saying the Jazz have all the leverage?

Either people are lying or stupid and since it's this forum I suspect they're both.

This is the funniest part to me, Rose is definitely under some pressure, where as Ainge was given the greenlight to gut a franchise that has never tanked before.

Westbrook crosses over the halfcourt splits the defense in two spins around a defender and lobs it up to

Wembanyamaaaaaaaa

The Knicks are up 158 - 38 against Utah Jazz

If Ainge wanted to keep Mitchell he wouldnt be negotiating in the media and having a bunch of leaks...They clearly want to tear it down, there is no rush to make a deal but there will be soon enough

4Real.

It's as if there's no pressure for Ainge to pull this off before the start of the season.

Whatever. If they do not land DM they had better pivot to moving Randle/Evan/Rose. We cannot have a summer of Kemba/Burks/Noel/trade out of the lottery for Brunson/Hartenstein. Not a good look. At least go young and let it ride.

I swore I wasn't going to get wrapped up in the speculation this year. I had zero confidence the FO would do anything worth talking about BUT, I like Brunson the player quite a bit. I like the idea of Hartenstein as well. I like getting rid of those vets but, we still have Randle/Evan/Rose and Thibs will play them over any kids.

I like some things they have done for sure but, they need to do more. MAYBE the DM trade is still possible and they get a decent trade. I am losing the energy to care as much though. Patience is not a virtue for me with this team(or the Jets).

This is a very fair statement. Jaylen Brown is a super athletic scorer and solid shooter. The fit next to Brunson and Barrett would be almost ideal. He would balance out the lack of length and athleticism in the backcourt and provide similar longrange shooting. However I doubt there is any way to acquire him.

He needs to let the kids grow… they can improve by getting more mins

I agree about going the youth route but I don't think our young players are that good to be honest.

There is one scenario… BOS strikes out on KD and then Brown asks for a trade out of BOS… Utah would send Spida to BOS while BOS would send Brown to NYK and we would send picks to Utah. I would not mind JB on a fair deal… at all.

Ultimately I see this happening

PF: Toppin / Bojan
SF: Barrett / Westbrook
SG: Donovan / Quickley
PG: Brunson / Rose
C: Mitch / Hartenstein / Sims

3 team trade between NYK, LAL, UTA - Randle, Fournier, McBride, Reddish and Grimes for 6 FRPs (from Knicks) for Donovan and Bojan and Westbrook. With Lakers 2027 pick heading to Utah as well. Lakers getting randle and Fournier.

Does it leave the Knicks with enough ammunition to make another trade that brings a championship?
In short, all I am saying is RJ-Brunson-Grimes-Quickley-Randle are the untouchables moving forward.

Waiting to see if the U.S. State Dept wants to get involved and extradite him from Thailand. Turns out Charlie was smuggling more than treats for Green Arrow in their Levis

Good! Miss the Playoffs then… find that gem in the draft or wait for next star after Dmitch

I think the people saying the Jazz have leverage base it solely on the argument that we are talking the "Knicks" and their reputation. Or they take the way oversimplified argument: Mitchell is signed for the next 3 years, so the Jazz have no pressure trading Mitchell any time soon. Sure, then let them start the season with DM on their way to a borderline top 10 lottery pick. At some point, when the Jazz are at slightly below .500 and realizing that they are blowing their plan at getting Wembeyama or a top 5 pick altogether and DM starts getting disgruntled then I'm sure Ainge will start to reconsider his maximum demands. The time is clearly NOT on the Jazz side.

The truth of the situation (based on the rumors) is that Utah wants a return like DM is a clear cut top 10 player in this league, which he clearly is not. Giving in to those demands would be simply idiotic.
In reality there are likely only like 3-4 teams in the league able to offer a similarly valuable package as the Knicks and likely only 1-2 really willing to do it. If some team overextends itself and puts 6+ FRPs on the table to snag a borderline top 20 player then after the initial dissapointment 90% of knick fans will be able to step back and know the FO did the right thing for once.

You simply HAVE to understand that any deal where you commit 7-8 valuable assets for DM is SIMPLY a bad deal. It may look fancy in the beginning, but reality will soon set in and everybody will realize that once again the Knicks were fleeced and set back their franchise.

If there's a mandate to trade for a star though, then yes, we have little leverage.

Isn't there always a mandate though?

No, otherwise Rose would have already done something prior to this

There is likely a master plan that entails packaging picks and players for a star, but a mandate implies a time frame

It is likely this is the most comfortable Dolan has felt with the management team in place for 20 years and he is going to play along
