Robot Rock wrote:Rice was definitely fascinating and a helluva player here. The main reason the Hornets were competitive into the early 2000s was winning the lottery with LJ and Zo, then trading them for new stars who did well (Mason, Rice), then trading those players for a new star (Jones), then trading that star for a new star (Mashburn) and winning the lottery with Baron Davis. All of the trading was necessitated, of course, by Shinn's being cheap and by LJ's back injury.

But we subsisted, even thrived, for about a decade mostly off two ping pong balls going our way.

We were so spoiled by Bob Bass and didn’t even realize it. He made lemonade out of his lemons. Shinn was such a bad owner, especially for a city like Charlotte. He drafted pretty well and gets crap for the Kobe thing but he really found ways to maximize his assets. Hornets were competitive for the majority of a decade because of him

amcoolio wrote:How about Bob Johnson going with that original Bobcats logo and color scheme?

Hey, a bobcat animal's actual colors are not a NBA color scheme and they are a really good set of colors (black and gold) that synergize well and could make for some really good uniforms, logos, and court design, even if you go more yellow than gold, what do you think?

No, lets go with fugging this:

Just going with that name and logo all together was so cringey. I remember they narrowed it down to Dragons (also weird) and Flight (would’ve worked but sounded WNBA-Ish) and landed on the worst one of all. Cougars would’ve worked, after the original ABA team. Just thankful we got the Hornets name back.

Compare that with the Pelicans rebrand, which IMO was completely badass.

Should have gone with the Flight, would have been perfect.

I think if Bob went with Flight, 9 years later MJ would have a difficult time choosing between rebranding into the Hornets are just using Flight and his jumpman logo in a partnership with Nike as the official name and logo

Yeah I think Flight could have stuck around, lots of stuff you could do with it. Hell, could have still gone heavy UNC colors with the sky and all.

I didn't mind the Bobcats name, but I wanted to be the Carolina Cougars.

I copped a shirt and hat when the throwbacks rolled around in 2012. Red, white and blue with "COUGARS" on the front. Very low-key.

I say not yet.

Miles was a bigger deal to both him (his money and career) and the team (loses second best player, implodes short and long term potential).

Bouk is barely NBA worthy at this point and him leaving the team would have minimal impact. Same reason Jeff Taylor doesn't belong

seems topical. at least in regards to what you guys were talking about.

I haven't forgotten about my goal to find the Stephen Jackson drunk game. but here's also some footage that I wanted to share.

The declining of his fourth year option means it's time.
Kai Jones going crazy and getting cut is another nomination.

Lets just nominate the first round of the 2021 NBA draft. What a catastrophe we are still paying for in dead cap and future draft pick considerations.
