The Knicks are acutely aware that Mitchell won't put us over the top, which is why they aren't giving up the farm for him

What is the value of an individual player when he needs to be traded with several other players and also 6-7 1st round draft picks? And the trade is for ONE PLAYER. How much value is that?
For like the 19th gazillion time...His value is dictated by the market, not by what Ainge wants to fleece teams out of. You'll know his true value once he's trade.....or not traded.

Re: Donovan Mitchell Thread #6 - Something might actually happen in this one!!!!!!
The Knicks are not one piece away from being a championship contender. How many pieces are they away? I honestly do not know and I don't think any of us know either. Due to this uncertainty, we're in a position similar to many other NBA teams and the landscape of the league has changed dramatically the last few years where there are no sure-fire championship superteams. At the same time, the NBA is about star talent and those with that level of talent are usually the ones left standing at the end.
So my thought is this: put a value on acquiring Donovan Mitchell and stick to it. It would be nice to have a talented player like Donovan Mitchell but he is not going to be the difference maker alone to make us a contender.
The assets we cannot give up willy-nilly are unprotected picks. Give up all the other picks we've acquired and put Top-3 protection on our picks then we can talk but otherwise, we have to be smart about asset evaluation. Also, we cannot afford the Kevin Knox/Frank Ntilikina level swing and misses we've seen under previous regimes. Also, for the love of God, play your young talent and find out if they are part of the future or JAGs.

Oh wait, you think it's putting pressure on Rose? Silly you if you do Rose isn't falling for it but apparently you did if you believe what Woj says and you just got played.
If Toronto wants to trade 4 unprotected picks and the young players Ainge wants to get a deal done then let them but between you me and the lolknicksbots I don't believe a word of it.
who's your source?
You dont need a source to understand how Woj and Shams work, they report based on what their source tells them to say when they arent reporting a done deal..
Woj reports trades before everyone because he has a source in the NBA who tells him when a trade call is happening..
Shams reports based on agents and players..
Woj was exposed during the Harden talks, he is a mouthpiece for certain teams
https://newrepublic.com/article/120572/adrian-wojnarowski-how-basketballs-reporting-machine-gets-his-scoops
If you look closely at his columns and talk to people in the NBA, you discover that he mixes his reporting and opinion writing in improper ways, rewarding sources with flattery and punishing the uncooperative with nastiness. In fact, it often appears as though Adrian Wojnarowski lets his sourcing dictate not just the topic but also the tone of his writing. In private, NBA reporters complain endlessly about Wojnarowski’s methods.

Dejounte Murray just got traded for 3 picks, a swap, and Gallinari. The Knicks giving up 6 picks, Grimes, and Fournier should be enough, considering Mitchell isn’t THAT much better.

The “get it done” people never actually say what theyd trade to “get it done” I notice. I guess it’s everything? There needs to be a line in the sand somewhere.
So ur okay with a package of 7 picks (4 Knicks unprotected) plus IQ, Obi, & Grimes?
That’s basically our best offer since they prob dont want RJ or Cam with their extensions looming.
Just be clear about what ur giving up when u say “just get it done LeOn!!!”. You’re handicapping the team with players that arent that great and dont fit together. It prob wont even be entertaining once the new car small wears off in November.

For real. The Gobert trade screwed everything up.
The Murray trade looks like nothing in comparison, and now we’re talking about trading every pick until 2050 for Mitchell.
People have lost their minds. If Ainge can find a better offer than ours then good for him.

We can’t trade consecutive picks so we’d have our own picks every other year so we’d be fine but we ain’t giving up 8 picks

HopelessKnick wrote:stuporman wrote:Wait... now people are claiming that it's being said the Knicks have all the leverage? You mean at the same time people are saying the Jazz have all the leverage?
Either people are lying or stupid and since it's this forum I suspect they're both.
I think the people saying the Jazz have leverage base it solely on the argument that we are talking the "Knicks" and their reputation. Or they take the way oversimplified argument: Mitchell is signed for the next 3 years, so the Jazz have no pressure trading Mitchell any time soon. Sure, then let them start the season with DM on their way to a borderline top 10 lottery pick. At some point, when the Jazz are at slightly below .500 and realizing that they are blowing their plan at getting Wembeyama or a top 5 pick altogether and DM starts getting disgruntled then I'm sure Ainge will start to reconsider his maximum demands. The time is clearly NOT on the Jazz side.
The truth of the situation (based on the rumors) is that Utah wants a return like DM is a clear cut top 10 player in this league, which he clearly is not. Giving in to those demands would be simply idiotic.
In reality there are likely only like 3-4 teams in the league able to offer a similarly valuable package as the Knicks and likely only 1-2 really willing to do it. If some team overextends itself and puts 6+ FRPs on the table to snag a borderline top 20 player then after the initial dissapointment 90% of knick fans will be able to step back and know the FO did the right thing for once.
You simply HAVE to understand that any deal where you commit 7-8 valuable assets for DM is SIMPLY a bad deal. It may look fancy in the beginning, but reality will soon set in and everybody will realize that once again the Knicks were fleeced and set back their franchise.
3+ months until the season. Ainge has plenty of time to field/consider every offer he's receiving. I know you like to pretend you know exactly what teams are offering Ainge, and exactly what Ainge wants, but you don't know. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't believe you're part of the 6-10 people in Ainge's inner circle that actually do know what Ainge wants. Speculating is fun, but pretending your speculation is fact is not very fun. You have no way of knowing what could get done and what couldn't. Teams surprise us all the time with how they're able to make deals work.

Now Toronto is talking to the Jazz. They can beat any package we put together if they are willing to include Scottie Barnes.
Shams reported this as well, for those of you who won't accept any 'information unless it comes from Woj or Shams.
I'd rather keep S.Barnes if i were them.

It’s like thinking DM just gonna be ok and play on the Cavaliers , or Houston Rockets , Sacramento or Detroit because they give him the biggest package .
Ainge could ruin his career by sending him to a bad situation , DM has been called the good soldier , Ainge is being sergeant silly with propositions like Toronto .
Another insulting proposition by Ainge.
———————————
It’s like Aige is the off-season Home run master and people act like we are desperate to pitch to him .
WE act like we are desperate to pitch to him .
Right now we’re pitching around him.
He ain’t swinging at nothing that ain’t a home run pitch and we can’t find the strike zone.
Best thing to do is just wait for next batter , who not so prolific . If you stick with this guy and get him want he wants he Gonna hit you hard .
And what’s the incentive?
This out only getting you out the inning not win you the ballgame. (Nba contention)
Or you need your best stuff ,
Make him chase a pitch out of the Zone that looks like a home run ball.
Maybe this means start offering Randle……
