Does anyone can say something about Calvin Bassey? Ajax is interested in him as replacement for Martinez, but I know nothing about him.

Can't believe you are paying 22-27m for him. left us on a free. we can't even get that for Perez/Soumaré/Vestergaard/Bertrand etc...

I know nothing about him so can't say much about the fee. But after the Martinez deal they immediately went after him so I reckon H2 did their homework. But from what I've read he doesn't seem to be a classic Ajax type player, so curious to see how it will work out.

Some pretty big movement in the last few days.

De Ligt to Bayern done, Lewandowski to Barca done, Dybala to Roma, Chelsea close to Kimpembe and Kounde.

Barca signing Kounde now. How are they doing this? Feels like a similar saga to Raphinha.

I've never seen a team with "no money" on the cusp of breaching league rules sign so many players. Must be a big bank loan involved, or they have guaranteed money coming in from elsewhere (De Jong?).

So wait, they sold TV rights? So that means that x percentage of their future TV income goes to whatever investment firm bought them?

That seems incredibly foolish and short-termist, unless I'm missing something.

Pretty much I think I saw a headline that said they were selling 25%of their tv rights to help balance the books, I think they are netting around half a billion euros or a bit over that. It’s very short term thinking, I think they are going all in this season to maybe try to do the double at the very least. I can see this not ending well at all.

On top of that they’ve recently told De Jong to do reduce his salary by 50%, even though they are throwing money around lol.

Barca was actually closer to 5th place in La Liga than first place last year.

So they have to make sure of UCL revenues.

Miss the days when they eschewed sponsor logos on their jerseys.

I wonder how their jersey sales are after some of the bigger recognizable stars like Messi left.

As a fan of football and not necessarily of top football, I think this is disgusting. They have no money they shouldn't be able to buy players.

Sure I read something about those digital rights too. All too dodgy. Teams should be forced to stay within present limits not possible future profits. Hopefully it'll all come crashing down but we all know that won't be allowed to happen.

I think it is disgusting too, very dangerous for European football. I look forward to their fall, failure now. A team I liked for not having shirt sponsors, focusing on their home grown talents.

What they are doing to De Jong by refusing to give him his 17 million € pay as promised is disrespectful, dangerous. If all teams can refuse to pay players, buy two other players for 60 million euros,50 million each, that means chaos, even more corrupt sport....

Err so Kasper Schmeichel is going to Nice?

I didn't expect that... What is going on at Leicester HIF? There's been zero activity in regards to transfers?

I'm not even sure why players want to join them in their current state. It says more about Lewandowski, Raphinha, Kounde, etc. than it does about the clubs they left or rejected, that they're willing to join a club that is mortgaging its future and might not even be able to pay them their full wages.

I don't know why they didn't just go for a full rebuild. Gradually shed the high salary players and build the future around Pedri, Gavi and Ansu Fati. Yes, they would be losing some revenues in the short-term but they'd still likely be a top 5 La Liga club. But no, they had to bring in more high profile stars on albatross contracts. The absolute arrogance of those that run the club will be their undoing.

That's the thing, Barca are a huge club they could make ANYONE with decent ability into a top player (in terms of image rights etc). Gavi, Pedri and Fati you can easily push them to be the new face, but they wanted to go for the big names instead.

Martin Braithwaite is not even that great of a player the guy used to play for Middlesborough and barely did well, yet cause Barca were desperate at the time they signed him. Now because he plays for Barca his image has elevated quite a bit and its not even like he's that great of a player.

I am so glad. He is an overrated goalkeeper, a legend maybe, but overrated. Now it's time for us to improve our second weakest position and our set piece defence.

We have too many players, no squad places so need to sell a few before we buy. seems sensible.

I hear you, it's always tricky with sqaud places. Especially selling underachieving players, for a decent amount. We're currently going through that, we really want and need another CM in our team but our squad is so bloated right now. Outgoings are slow as well, it's really frustrating as a fan lol but I know I'm being a bit of a brat because Villa have already done good business.

Speaking about Barca jerseys, what is that three color garbage?

That is the issue when you overpay to sign new players. You are not going to get rid of the low performers anymore without paying someone to take them off your hands.
And literally nobody in Europe is willing to buy from the EPL clubs...loan at max.

I wouldn't say some of it is an overpay because some of the players (I can only speak for my team) was worth it at the time, but due to injuries etc it hasn't worked out. However I do get your point. It's going to be an issue for a lot teams in the prem going forward since it's the league which has the most money in it.
