Who should replace Sheed as Lakers assistant?

Post#1 » by tamaraw08 » Wed Jul 27, 2022 3:47 am

Sheed is not coming. It’s been widely speculated that he was supposed to hold difficult players accountable, get into their faces especially Russ, help toughen up AD etc. So who should take that role? Darvin Ham is no midget too, he’s like 6’7 280 lbs so I’m not sure he needs another muscle/bouncer but …
1. AC Green, ex Laker, iron man who barely missed games, relentless, workhorse, but is he relatable?
2. Is Steve Clifford still available? The guy who cleaned up Vogel’s mess in Orlando.
3. James Worthy. Not sure if he’s willing.
4. Byron Scott?
My preference is Shane Battier. The guy is very smart, ex player, relatable.
Who is your preference?

If Rambis or Fisher could bring a winning percentage similar to their previous achievements as head coaches they should be considered

"he was supposed to hold difficult players accountable"

That's not it. He was supposed to hold everyone accountable, not just "difficult" players. Everybody. Darvin Ham included.

Rasheed said Russ was the best player in the league just 12 months ago so I don't think he was being brought in specifically to yell at Westbrook.

1. AC Green - Retired in 2001. Hasn’t coached. Was last heard of working in India in 2017.

2. Signed as Hornets head coach

3. James Worthy spent 1 year as a big man coach for the Lakers in 2015. They finished with a 17 - 65 record

4. Byron Scott - 15 years coaching experience but got worse as the years went on.

51% win percentage with the Nets
48% win percentage with the Hornets
27% win percentage with the Cavs
21% win percentage with the Lakers

Lakers would be scraping the bottom of the barrel with these selections.

I don't know if Scottie Brooks is available but 100% him. He is elite defensive coach and has very good synergy with Westbrook and Brooks always had nifty cutting plays in his playbook. Even if Westbrook thing doesn't work and they part ways with him Brooks is still valuable person to have.

This position is as an assistent-coach behind the bench. Lakers filled the 3 lead/front-row assistent positions already.
Scott Brooks and some of the other names mentioned are not gonna accept this position.

If I’ve ever seen a question for a teams own board, this has to be it
