Toronto's 2018 scouting reports on LeBron (& others) accidentally leaked by former vengeful bust

This may be old, but it's interesting to check how the actual NBA teams do their work.

Recently, former Toronto Raptors player Lucas Nogueira shared a photo of the Raptors game-plan for guarding LeBron James during the 2018 NBA Playoffs.

Nogueira shared the photo via his Instagram story, and the photo was captured by Quinton Mayo.

Nogueira also shared the photos of the game-plans for John Wall and Bradley Beal.

The Raptors beat the Wizards in the first-round of the playoffs that season in six games.

However, they lost to James and the Cavs in a four-game sweep.

Seeing an official scouting report photo of how to guard NBA superstars is something that is very cool for fans to consume.

As for Nogueira, he was the 16th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, and he spent his only four seasons in the NBA playing for the Raptors.

He has not played in the NBA since 2018.

James and the Cavs went all the way to the NBA Finals that season, but they lost to Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors.

The four-time NBA Champion has also played for the Miami Heat, and he is currently on the Los Angeles Lakers.

Good to see professionals using TS% and ppp. Ironically there are people on RealGM who claim those stats are useless.

This has to be Lucas Nogueira's career highlight.

Okay, that's funny!!

Lebron is elite at finishing at the rim? You don't say, Sherlock!

By 2018, you've only seen him do it for 15 years.

Wow.. He really wants the attention. Right now he plays for the Guelph Nighthawks. That's like an hour drive from Toronto lol

Idk maybe it’s just me, but I find this to be rather underwhelming. I feel like any number of us could've put together this report just by watching the games and summarizing some publicly available data.

Nice to see an nba scouting report, but would’ve also been nice to take it another step and see their actual game plan for how they wanted to defend him. “Double in these situations, force him to these spots, play Lebron to pass in these sets, trap when the screener is XYZ”

Casey was the coach at the time. So their defensive strategy was: "Play with force!"

Offensive: "Pound the ball"

This isn't a scouting report, it says nothing of scheme or strategy. Probably something the Raptors analytics dept churns out for those who like to see numbers. Not sure why they don't just stick with PPP, though...

no wonder casey got fired. Thats not even remotely acceptable for an nba playoff game, let alone the regular season. its no wonder they werent prepared for him. division 3 teams have better player profiles than that. I seriously hope dwayne casey isnt still doing that, I can make do better than that in less than an hour.

Maybe its a boomer thing, but ive seen far more impressive than that at the college level, so no, thats not normal for the nba. a lot of clips usually go with this as well too in fairness, its not just this.

That's literally just publicly available PPP stats from Synergy. That's a low income scouting report. I'm surprised at how basic it is but perhaps Toronto dumbs it down for their players.

Side note he plays for the CEBL now, never heard of that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Elite_Basketball_League

Any Canadians that Trudeau hasn't put into a snowbound gulag yet want to comment on how watchable CEBL is?

Face it a better scouting report wasn't helping you guys beat LeBron that year.

What an idiot, now they have to find a different way to defend John Wall.

Dwayne Casey : Okay OG. It's on you. We need some stops, lock him up.

DeMar/Lowry : Yeah! OG you got this. Lock him up.

The scouting report on Beal is far nicer than the one on Wall. Almost like the Raptors knew Beal was the more potent of the two.

Wikipedia tells me that boomers were born between 1946 and 1964... and would be 54-72 YO in 2018! I think we can safely assume that the people working at the Raptor's Analytics department and who would've been tasked with putting together this booklet in 2018 were born in one of the next generations, i.e., the less impressive ones. :P

By the way, how come you aren't associating any of this with Masai? Whether it's from making this booklet or from the hiring of 54-72 YO boomers to do legwork in his Analytics department... surely he dun goofed up somewhere.
