what if kikuchi does well tonight? if they assume that it means that hes turned the corner, and will be consistently good, they may not make a move.

You think one start will convince them of that? These guys have been around baseball a long time. They’re not going to put all their faith in one start. If they don’t make a move, it will have nothing to do with Kikuchi tonight.

I'm gonna need Kikuchi to not make any further starts this year.

We almost certainly will trade for some pitching. It might not be an ace with several years of team control, but that's just because it's really hard to make those trades (and sometimes when you think you're making those trades, you end up paying Jose Berrios through the end of time).

Yeah I think getting some pen rentals would help too. Starters are so tough year to year but I'd love a solid inning eater tbh.

What do you guys think of the reno ideas? As much as I'd love a new ballpark but I understand the massive limitations on that.

I'd expect us to get a starter, too. But it might be more along the lines of a Drew Smyly to provide back-end depth (who is having a profoundly strange component season, by the by) rather than buying at the top of the market, because there are scant few good options available, and those are going to go for an absolute premium.

Even adjusting for the level of competition (the Tigers are just a pathetic offensive team), Kikuchi produced five innings of sublime adequacy.

I was shocked when I tuned in and it was 4-1. Did Kikuchi actually pitch well or was this just a case of Detroit being Detroit?
