The other thing about Draymond is that he is one of those guys, IMO, who can raise the ceiling of a good team but doesn’t really add wins to a bad team.

Re: Zero interest in a 34yo Draymond Green on a 4yr max deal
honestly i love the idea of bringing draymond in next season (assuming he declines his player option). he has one of the highest bball IQs in the league and is an excellent communicator. he's still elite defensively and i don't think that will change until he really loses a step.
however, his offensive skill set honestly is perfect for motion offenses like the warriors run. i really don't see him fitting with us offensively considering we don't have two of the best off-ball players ever and he doesn't have the skill to be an off-ball player next to cade.
he'd be an awesome player to have for like $10M/season to come off the bench and be an influence for the young guys but he's not at that point yet. i hope the warriors pay him and he gets to contend for a few more years.

Hes just trying to get us involved to bid up his contract. He wants to retire a Warrior. I've heard it on podcasts hes been on.

You're way off. After 2023, our draft picks aren't meaningful pieces to what we're doing. We've got one more shot and then it doesn't matter who we sign we're not a lottery team... we're hoping to get 9th or 10th man in the rotation type pieces with late firsts... maybe get lucky and his a Tayshaun Prince but we're not a team stuck in no where. If we're still heavily banking on draft picks being high lottery picks by 2024 we're in a world of hurt as a franchise beyond anything any FAs will effect. Weaver **** up big time if we need to hit another good starter with our 2024 draft pick.
If Draymond Green was going to come in and take a bunch of shots and hinder the development of the young guys I'd have zero interest in what he would bring to the table. I think it'd be a lot more of adding old man Chris Paul than adding old man Carmelo Anthony though. Having a guy who knows how to win and knows what it takes, and can show that to the young guys would be beneficial for sure. Someone highly respected around the league.
Honestly, the plan might be to pass on FA again next year because we're wanting to pay our own guys, and as I mentioned previously signing Draymond to a 3 year deal (or any other vet FA) would in reality only put us in the luxury tax for a single season, the first season of Cade's max contract.... Then you'd get Draymond coming off the books right before you'd have to bay Ivey and Duren off their rookie contracts. Would be set up perfectly to give us the cap relief at the right time.
That said, I'd consider signing Draymond to the right type of deal, but I also wouldn't be opposed going in a bunch of other directions if it makes sense.
If you say I'm way off then I'm probably spot on since the team never seems to do what you think they should do, yet everything seems to be working out pretty well.

For one, the Pistons don't have the cap room to sign Green outright. In addition, even if they did, the team is on a greatly different trajectory time wise than Green is.

Yeah we'll run Killian at the Point, CoJo as SG, Noels at Center, Draymond and Beef Stew as our Forwards.
We should be able to score 50 to 60 points nightly, no problem.

I'm not paying Dray max money, either. Or close to it.
But the idea of not wanting him on the team at all is ridiculous. As if a vet who actually knows how to play the game, and plays winning basketball, would somehow be a hindrance to a young up & coming team. Insanity. And if he toughens up the locker room in the process, even better. There's no rule that says ALL of our vets have to be scrubs that have never won anything. For the right price, I'd sign him in a heartbeat.

Draymond played 43, 63 and 46 games last 3 seasons. He averaged 7.5ppg, 6.1rpg, 1bpg while shooting 28.5% from 3. Why the hell would any GM in their right mind pay this guy max bucks much less than $25 mil per season?

You're moving the goalposts. Obviously if he'll take a vet minimum you sign him. But I seriously doubt he'd be coming here on a $110 million contract to play 12-15 minutes a game and mentor the kids. He'd expect to have a more serious role and right now is not the time to be putting 34 year old players into the top 8-10 spots. Younger players should be being groomed for those spots. It's nothing against Draymond as a person, player or teammate whatsoever.

They wouldn't. To me this seems more like "I like Draymond as a player, he's a good guy, he played at Michigan State, I'd love to see him on the Pistons" rather than it being an advantageous move for the team, especially when taking on the remainder of a $110 million contract. My brain doesn't work that way; "liking" a player never comes to mind. Does he fit/make the team better, does his salary work and is his head screwed on straight are the only things I'm concerned with.

I'm not moving any goal posts. The OP says he wouldn't want him at even the vet minimum.

Everyone who thinks Draymond is going to be a Piston this season, raise your hand!

Ok, can I have what you're smoking?

The premise of the OP is two years from now. Not this year.

Then let's see in two years. Sheesh.
Back to summer doldrums on the basketball boards, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Assistant coaches dont make that kind of money.
Someone will overpay him and after 2 years buy him out and then he can come home for vet min.

Re: Zero interest in a 34yo Draymond Green on a 4yr max deal
I consulted with my crystal ball and it showed that in two years Draymond will have torn an ACL, developed an addiction to Pringles Scorchin’ BBQ chips, and put on 50 lbs. That’s why I wouldn’t sign him.
