While we don't need russ he would fit here.
I think the only other teams that take a look at him could be the pels, Miami, maybe the wolvers.

Not just that but after the Lakers debacle, Russ probably doesn’t want the expectations and negative media attention that goes along with joining a contending team.
Luckily for him, our franchise is where expectations and media scrutiny go to die. The fact that we’re also not going to be terrible only helps our case.
You get a team that will probably be near-playoff-caliber and the fun that goes along with that, but without all of the pressure to live up to expectations.
I AM A DISABLED VETERAN... NOT FAR REMOVED FROM LIVING AT A US VETS IN HAWAII.
I wish I had Russ's "problems"
No teams want a future HOFer? GTFOH
That guy was TERRIFIC from the time the Wizards had an infinitesimally small chance of making the playin/playoffs til WHEN they MADE THE PLAYOFFS. RECENT HISTORY
yES, OF COURSE RUSS WAS CRAP TASTIC ALSO!
Regardless, I still consider Westbrook better than Beal

Again... if he's bought out, then wherever Russ goes he costs that team nothing. He'll have no trouble lining up interested teams.

I disagree. I think getting the 21 year old Horton-Tucker for the 3 year old Pat Bev was a pretty nice get for the Jazz. I like Horton-Tucker’s upside.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. THT has flashed ocassionally but he's not a good player right now and that's not a good contract. Reminds me of bigger Troy Brown, just very dependent on making jumpshots. Gets wide open looks because opponents don't buy it yet. A poor defender too.
Wiz should have gotten involved. I would have thrown in a 2nd if needed.

Pat Beverly wasn't coming here. & anyway, we aren't going to become a good team by adding veterans.
In fact, we aren't going to become a good team any time soon. Not by any means at all.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves - Part 8
I agree with both of you, DCZards and Dat2U.
Horton-Tucker, like our own Kyle Kuzma and Thomas Bryant, got to the NBA by the merits of his skill and talent. THT impressed before Lebron came to the Lakers IIRC. A player like Pat Bev is usually a waiver wire add-on. Getting anyone 21 years old MIGHT turn into value.
Where I also agree is with the Troy Brown Jr comparison. Scott Brooks torpedoed TBJ’s Wizards career. Kid had zero chance and then cam Westbrook (if TBj wasn’t already dealt, I cannot recall). Seems to me THT and TBJ are each as talented as Will Barton. Monte Morris at 21 years old? Was he even in the NBA? No.
Time will tell, but I believe Troy Brown and Thomas Bryant both will be a part of an LAL surprise playoff season. Bryant especially but I think Troy will be huge. It’s his time.
THT is at least in a better spot than where he was.

But can we sink and really stink? Can it get so bad Wes Unseld Jr. loses the team???
Can we miss the play-in?

Charlotte minus Bridges might disappoint. Detroit is going to be WAY BETTER. Brooklyn with KD and Kyrie will win far more than Washington.
We might be looking at UNDER 35 wins, barring front court improvement.

Pat Bev was not a free agent, he was acquired via trade. He didn't get to pick his destination. Additionally your second point makes absolutely no sense. You add good veterans while subtracting poor performing vets, the team will assuredly improve.

So with Nets clearly better and the Knicks in the mix for 40 or so wins, the Wizards are tied for 11th with Charlotte and would need to win another 4-5 games to likely be in the mix for the play-in
Pacers aren't a 25 win team yet until they trade Turner & Hield but obviously you expect them to do so. Detroit will be fun to watch but with their front court, 25 wins seems about right. Orlando's terrible guard play keeps them in the 25-win space as well.
So the Wizards are positively in the worst spot. Not in playoff contention but clearly better than the bottom 6 in the league.
We are pretty much Charlotte or Sacramento. A legitimate move away from either being a fringe playoff team. Also a move away from clearly tanking.
Amazing how Shepp keeps 'winning' these trades the last few years and were still bottom 10 in talent

I could have written a bit more carefully, sorry.
As to Pat Bev: we are now $360K under the luxury tax w/ a full roster & a team that looks likely to win 35 games. Pat Bev makes $13+m. I believe part of your idea was to cut Todd; that would create a spot (but of course we'd still have to pay him, & he counts as a salary).
Assuming we haven't moved some other significant salary, we would be @$14m over the luxury tax.
Dat2U wrote:...Additionally your second point makes absolutely no sense. You add good veterans while subtracting poor performing vets, the team will assuredly improve.
Yes, of course! Where did I deny that obvious fact? In fact, you don't even have to add "good" veterans -- just guys better than those they replace. Say, for example, less bad.
Not just veterans for that matter. If you replace lousy young players with less lousy young players, you will also "assuredly improve."
But "the team will assuredly improve" is not equal to "become a good team." & the worse your team is the more possibilities you have to improve. Without ever becoming a good team.
In short, I don't see a chance at all that we become a good team any time soon by any means whatever. If you do, great! It's not like I'm against the idea!

Just in theory... but if the Wizards 'could of' traded Kuz + Carey and 2nd for Beverley + Vanderbilt, they would have improved their win total significantly, likely to the point where they'd be a top 8 seed and probably win more games than they would lose.

Garland/Mitchell/Okoro/Mobley/Allen is pretty nice starting 5, but I don't know, I'm not sure I like this move in bigger picture. They really want to be a playoff team. I hope my man Markkanen gets traded to a better place, but according to Woj Utah wants to keep him.

Curious on this. Is Beverley better than Delon Wright by any significant amount? Would he play ahead of Wright and Morris or do you play him with Morris and just don't play Kispert and Davis behind Beal? Or do you think the deep depth is that key?
Or, (or maybe and), do you have Vanderbilt as significantly better than Kuzma? Vanderbilt gives you better defense, Kuzma gives you significantly better spacing. Not sure how much more Vanderbilt gives that Gafford can't provide but then I'm a big Gafford fan.
I just don't see the significant win total improvement here and am curious where you see this extra value coming from.

It's definitely an all in move, but it doesn't push them from 6th to like...2nd if that makes any sense. I think it just solidifies them as a top 6 team but they are going to be a tough first round out.
