Eh. Probably a battle between him and Lee at this point. Rodney is probably more useful.

Whatever Rodney has on weaver concerns me. That being said, I’d rather have Ransom McGruder then Lee.

Knox I kind of get, but I still think we’d be better had they left the spot open for a g league player who impresses

Having a vet who is a good practice player and willing to accept that role is OKish. He's capable of giving you limited rotation minutes IF needed, but hopefully he's just being a good teammate and lockerroom guy. *shrug* It's kinda whatevs.

I guess I'm a lil surprised he didn't wait longer to see if a playoff team might pick him up as an actual rotation player, but I doubt anybody else was going to give him a better offer.

So an NBA team can have a maximum of 15 players, and only 13 active during any given game.

Somethings gotta give here. With Kemba still unresolved, starting to think a trade, or facilitator trade is in the works. 4 over the limit here.

Edit*

Just did some reading on both two way spots are also filled, so something has to be happening here.

McGruder can make his shot when open, so I see nothing wrong with this!

i believe teams can carry 20 players on the roster through the summer and then have to cut down by preseason.

Welcome back Rodney!

I wonder what Weaver's going to do with this logjam. I assume it's already in the works.

2 way players don't count as roster spots though so Buddy and Key are fine.

That said we still got way too many guys but that's always the case going into camp.

IF we assume Kemba will be bought out at some point and that our 2nd rounder is staying overseas.

I think Lee is on thin ice now, especially given McGruder's relationship with Weaver.

Here's the most likely roster IMO:

Bags - Noel - Duren
Stewart - KO - Livers
Bey - Diallo - Knox
Ivey - Burks - McGruder
Cade - Hayes - CoJo

That seems to be a Weaver kind of thing to do: have vets on board to "mentor" the young potential role players instead of just rolling the ball out and letting the young guys have free reign.

If Hayes (21), Diallo (24), Knox (22), Livers (24) and Duren (18) aren't earning it there's vets on the squad that Casey can lean on for minutes.

In NBA terms those guys are toddlers.

I'd like to think Casey leans on the vets less but there is something to having old pros on board to help the kids get through a long season.

Dead money sucks, but just cut Lee. He needs to get started on his career overseas anyway.

Cool mcgruder isn't as bad as some make him out. He actually can hit an open 3 which is nice especially for this team

Rumor has it Rodney held out until it was confirmed the teal was back.

He seems to be a nice mentor, the young players liked him. He can play, make some 3's. I'm fine with him coming back, I thought it would be done earlier this summer.

Yep, still don't understand his vice grip hold on Weaver to last this long but it is what it is

Also, on a realistic note, they probably go back to their days in the DMV

Probably not the worst thing to have 16 guys roll into the pre-season and then have to cut down to 15 for the regular season. Puts some urgency on coming into training camp and Pre-season ready to play or you might end up cut from the team because there's only 15 spots and someone can't make it.

meh. We all know he's not very good, but he's a team first guy. Our rotations is going to be super young, so it's hard to complain too much about bringing him back for vet leadership.

i said last season i'd rather we brought mcgruder back than frank jackson so glad we did that. we have a lot of young guys so having a good locker room vet who doesn't expect playing time is a plus.

and barring any trades if the last roster spot came down to lee vs. mcgruder i think mcgruder would be better to keep.
