8/2/22:

BREAKING NEWS from @Steve Bulpett ... Source tells @HeavyOnSports that Kevin Durant will meet with @Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai this week as his request for a trade has reached a stalemate.

“What I’m hearing is that KD is going to meet with the owner this week,” the source told Heavy Sports. “He’s going to go directly to the owner, Joe Tsai, sometime this week. We’ll see how that works.”

Whether the intent of the meeting is to smooth over a relationship that suffered at least a hairline fracture when Durant, with four years left on his contract, asked to be traded is uncertain.

“I don’t know,” said the exec. “I have no idea what’s going to come of that meeting. There are some things that KD is unhappy about, and I’m not sure any of that gets fixed here. But maybe it does.”

A personnel exec from another club expressed disappointment with the process. “I think there’s some teams that aren’t very happy that when they talk to Brooklyn it gets in the papers,” he said. “That doesn’t help. I’ve talked with a couple of teams that are not happy with the rumors that creep out of there through all this. It’s not a good way to do business.”

The Nets are still an actual contender if they can stay healthy, it’s not as if it’s a total dead end situation. They have some terrific shooting around KD and Kyrie. I’ve never been a big fan of Simmons and recognized his short comings very early on, but the pendulum has swung so far in the other direction now where he has become a total punchline and people act like he offers no value to a team at all (assuming he’s in a mental space to suit up). He has gone from incredibly overrated to incredibly underrated at warp speed.

I can understand in most instances where someone wants to hit the eject button in a given situation, but KD has now wanted out of an OKC situation and a Brooklyn situation where he was on an actual team in contention just because he was looking for a total sure thing. The lack of competitiveness in that is just glaringly pathetic in my view. Not even Lebron was that shameless, you could at least see the limited ceiling in situations he was entangled in when he wanted to opt out

They should either let him rot in Brooklyn or let some team like the Kings gut their roster for him.

Gentleman’s agreement that Tsai will give KD a super max extension after his current contact ends I bet

Honestly don't see what this solves. Word is KD's rep told the owner flat out that KD wants out. Now they don't have to let him out, but holding on to an aging KD that was just swept seems petty.

Ain’t gonna lie, I’d love to see LBJ and Durant team up, they’re geezers at this point but still potent enough to win given the right pieces around them.

Just like the Kawhi situation... this will be the Nets last ditch effort to see if Durant can rescind his trade demand. Based on the meeting, Durant will either be coming back or gets traded within a few days after.

Those packages that were deemed "insufficient" will become the new baseline for the Nets expectations.

Demanding a trade because the player HE wanted them to sign sat out and the player HE wanted them to trade for asked out, and after he signed a 4-year extension, seems a lot more petty to me.

Honestly wonder how this is going to play out. Both sides cannot afford Durant to just sit out for multiple seasons if they don't trade him. Which obviously would never happen but just mean it's a lot different than the Simmons situation mostly due to KDs age and status. So I'm genuinely curious if KD will accept that they won't trade him for bad value and suits up and remains professional and engaged or if he will double down and force Brooklyn to acquiesce.

KD does not seem like the type to sit out or dog it on the court to force the teams hand but he also doesn't seem like someone who would allow a team to, what he likely sees as, control his future. Tsai also doesn't seem like the type to cave. Really hope we see some kind of resolution to this soon

You said it yourself: KD isn't going to sit out. The resolution is that he's going to play for Brooklyn this season, because no team is going to give what the Nets are demanding. The only question is whether he plays for Brooklyn while reversing course and saying he wants to be there or plays for Brooklyn with both parties publicly agreeing that a trade will be sought out next offseason (or something like that).

KD is much better off pulling a Harden then a Simmons if he wants to get traded… and he knows that after watching both situations.

If I am the Nets and KD maintains trade demand, I don’t want him playing and risking injury

Another thing to note… if this was leaked from Nets FO, I bet Woj/Shams would have reported this.

I think people are tripping when it comes to the Nets adjusting their expectations. I don't know that their purported asking price was ever realistic, but the Celtics put Brown, White, and a first on the table already. The Nets traded a lot for Harden despite him mailing it in. The Sixers traded a lot for Harden despite him flaking out on his second team in a year.

Any fan who thinks their team is gaining the upper hand is being unrealistic.
