I am fine with the Jays deadline moves. With the Yankees so dominant, I am okay saving some trade chips for the off-season.

Hearing Merrifield will have to wait 2 weeks to play at home?

I don't know. He might see playing time with Springer being hurt. Still couldn't we get someone better and not trade someone who potentially fills a need right now (spot starting)?

Merrifield was a 3 fWAR player last year (and an All-Star, insofar as being a Royals All-Star matters). Having a down season, but I'd imagine that he'll play a fair bit.

I don't love losing Castillo as he's useful depth, but Samad Taylor isn't a particularly significant prospect.

Trading for Merrifield is hilarious given his past comments. Good insurance for Springer given he's likely to go on the IL soon.

I definitely like the White trade. Adds badly needed SP depth with a ton of control and maybe he'll be Stripling 2.0 if they are lucky.

It's quite clear now the Jays weren't gonna go all-in for rentals this year, which you can't really argue against given their position in the WC race (and the likelihood that our season is coming down to two games) as well as the fact that NYY and HOU are undeniably better than us. Any rental they acquired isn't gonna shift the odds much at all. Save the prospect capital for bigger trades in the offseason.

Yes, Merrifield plays CF.

This comment makes little sense. I think many just remember the guy from two years ago, but Bass has been one of the best RPs in the game this year.

I can just about guarantee the team plans to call up Zulueta in the next two months as well.

Yes, Merrifield plays CF.

…well, chances are, when we get an update on springers elbow it isn’t going to be good…

Seems rather knee jerk, not even a lefty bat.

I'm sure they tried on Happ but the Cubs oddly didn't move him. With Springer's situation up in the air, they did need a guy who can play CF (Tapia can't) who can hit at a major league level (Zimmer apparently can't anymore), so it is a fit.

Everyone else will have to wait 10 days.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Also, in hindsight, the team last year that had demonstrably the best deadline in terms of the result they got? The Braves. And their deadline was unsexy to say the least. Adam Duvall, Jorge Soler, Eddie Rosario, and Richard Rodriguez. Three scrap-heap outfielders and a reliever who can't strike anyone out.

But a moderate upgrade in the outfield was their big need, and their unsexy pickups were more important than a big splash. And the MLB playoffs being the MLB playoffs, they beat multiple teams with sexier lineups and much bigger deadline moves.

We don't need a lefty bat. The whole point of having lefties is that they are better against righties. But our righties are exceptionally good against righties; only two teams hit better against RHP.

14 days if he gets J&J or 35 if he gets Pfizer, I think.
