He's seemingly been using being an afterthought in the ROY voting as fuel to the fire in preparation for this season. Hopefully its legit and not just some offseason fluff.

Knicks became the first team in history to give a non all-star a $100+ million contract this summer. Don't get me wrong, I like Brunson and think he plays winning basketball, and knows how to run a team. But it's not like they added a top 30 player to their team. Cade is likely to step into being a top 30 player in year two.

Tbf, Brunson’s 26M a year isn’t even close to a top 30 salary, so it’s not like he’s being expected to be a top 30 player. He’s the 14th highest paid PG this season and good-starter-level PG play is all that the team is hoping for out of him.

We won 37 games with Kemba’s corpse & Alec Burks masquerading as a PG, once Rose got hurt. Getting a quality starter alone will be a tremendous upgrade to our team, that helps all of our other players do better.

Cade’s eventual leaps & what our FO does with the warchest they’ve been collecting, are the wildcard here…but even if Cade makes the leap this year, is the supporting cast around him going to be ready to win 40+ games without more experience?

I've already stated that its almost certain that the Knicks will be better in 22-23.... I think the two teams are likely close in 23/23 but the Pistons also have $63-$70 million in cap space next summer as well so much will depend on how that's used.

It's better for the Knicks for the Pistons to become good sooner rather than later because that first round pick could disappear from Detroit and turn into a 2nd if the Pistons stay at the bottom a few more years.

Fair enough. Your ‘Brunson’s not a top 30 guy while Cade will be one’ point made me think you were saying that Detroit would be better because…barring a massive Randle bounce back…we won’t have a top 30 player.

But my point was more that Brunson being the first non-Allstar with a 100M contract, says more about how much the NBA is earning, than the Knicks thinking he’s something he’s not…thus his salary starting at 14th amongst PGs, before descending.

And that just adding a competent starting PG would be an absolute game changer for a team that wasn’t that bad.

And I’ll be shocked if that pick doesn’t convert. Sure you’re most likely picking in the top 18 these next two years, but in years 3-5 (when the protections start to drop)? The only way that pick doesn’t convert in 2025-2027 is if Cade is ruined by injuries.

Kinda wish this thread would go away, dont know why a Piston fan felt the need to flex but we're in no position to be talking **** about anyone else

But the Pistons by definition are clearly superior now that they have signed all-time greats Rodney McGruder and Kevin Knox

Yeah, not sure why fans of either team are flexing here. Pistons have the potential for a great future, but chances are they're going to need another season to gel. Knicks are likely very improved over last year--before Brunson, our last decent point guard was the corpse of Derrick Rose. (Heck, three seasons of the last six we've had arguably the worst guard tandem in the NBA). That said, we're definitely not seriously competing for the NBA finals (or even the conference finals) anytime soon.

Weird choice of comparisons in a very weird thread.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.

I get it. Your future is looking really exciting with Cade, Ivey, the rest of your kids, and another (likely) high pick in this reportedly stacked draft class.

It’s understandable for people to get excited & jump the gun a little bit. Just doesn’t help that we (Knicks fans) are a prickly bunch

Clearly didn't watch many (if any?) Pistons games last season. Not that I blame you if that was the case. But using PER solely to justify your viewpoint kind of just destroyed your whole argument.

13.1 PER is below avg

You’re using PER as your argument? We better extend Olynyks contract then, his was better than Grants. We’re going to regret losing Garza then to.

Dude, just stop

Stop what...telling the truth?

Acting as PER by itself determines the best player. Boston had 4 guys with higher PERs than Tatum and Brown. So you’re going to tell me you’d rather have Robert Williams over Tatum or Brown

PER favors Bigs, compare position to position

Hartenstein was a good signing.

Brunson is a good player, the Knicks just overpaid for him.

it’s what you have to do to acquire above average talent in free agency nowadays which is what brunson is. he really isn’t grossly overpaid either. todays 100 million isn’t yesterday’s 100 million

I hope not. May the Basketball Gods ravage them with injury-riddled season to draft Victor. They already suffer for 36 years not drafting a franchise player. They are one pick away to draft Ja Morant, Stephen Curry, Kevin Love and sent Jamal Murray to Nuggets due for Melo trade and had a shot to draft Devin Booker but instead went for Porzingis. Melo was the only franchise player they had since Ewing and only guided the Knicks to Playoffs 3 times and won 1 series after guiding the Nuggets to 7 straight Playoffs appearances. I remember when they beat the Hawks 2 years ago in the 1st round and fans go wild and have a massive rally and celebration in NYC streets because they won a single Playoffs game, imagine the hype once they won a ring.

Happy to see Hartenstein play well for the Knicks. Wish the Clippers could have kept him.

Isn’t it strange to use the word “better” in the same sentence as “Knicks”?
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.
