Mitrovic is a beast. I think Trent gets too much flak for his D, I mean maybe 2 years ago you had a point saying he is back who cant play d, but I think he improved, his offense just overshadows everything else. Right backs aren't suppose to beat center forwards in the air anyway.

Darwin is in and what a goal, Liverpool is back in the second half, game is much more alive.

Trent isn't a world class RB.
He's defending has been poor for years.

I can’t help but feel like Liverpool could’ve used Mane in this game

Standard for a lot of promoted teams to be fired up against a top team, especially this early into the season.

No doubt Mitrovic is a tough guy to mark in the box especially in the air. Trent’s improved but I think over the years when you compare today’s full backs compared to a few years ago there’s a bit of a gulf in defending ability.

I think full backs in general aren’t that great at defending, players like Ashley Cole etc used to be elite at both getting forward and defending. Some of these full backs are just quality at getting forward and lacklustre at defending.

I am not this sport expert, Liverpool's full backs are definitely offensive oriented, not sure how it used to be, I heard that it is how game is changing, Full backs becoming offensive players and not defenders.

Trent needed to cover that, that was terrible submission in the air. His passing is amazing tho, I love his playing style.

No worries dude, I was just more giving you a background on the position :). You’re right though it’s evolving, Klopp is one of the managers recently that has changed the role of a fullback. I like Trent in general as well, he’s an amazing passer and funny enough when he was a youth player he was primed for a midfield position but Critchley(liverpools youth coach) recommended him as RB instead and he’s been very good since.

I wouldn't play him as a RB fulltime personally. I know Klopp prefers more attacking FB's. But I would move him to MF. My preference.

I really thought a bigger club would get him this summer.

He's really good, one of my favourite non Spurs. Heck, I'd sign him just so he would stop killing us every time we play Southampton.

Yeah very soft goal, if he jumped back into Mitrovic would be called for a foul because he was jumping with his hands almost on the neck of Trent. Top team like City,Pool are letting the fullbacks not even try defending solo because they are so good defending as a team. Different world than when great offensive fullback like Dani Alves was being told to stop Cristiano Ronaldo 1 vs 1 in CL final. The attacking fullbacks was better defensively than Cancelo,Trent back then. Robertson can actually defend on his though.
