Yeah sorry NFL football. That fantasy football.

It's by far the biggest fantasy sport in the world mainly due to it's low levels of management needed and one day result oriented action lines up really well with the sport. Whereas EPL and such you need to be aware and you might get awards for everything... NFL fantasy is *essentially* did your players score more TDs than the other team that day.

So it translates well to highlights and score updates, which is why the NFL created the "Redzone" channel that skips all the commercials and just flips the game back and forth when playing to the ones that are in the area of touchdowns normally scored (and if there is a super long one that they didn't see they just show a replay of it instead of in realtime). Sometimes it'll have 3 games on the screen at once that are all close to scoring.

That just gives an idea of how fun fantasy football is, the NFL legit made an entire channel about it and it's probably the most popular channel for about 6 months of the year in the USA. And it's only about fantasy football not the actual game lol.

Your making it seem you can make money off this?

You can make money off any sport. All you have to do is pick winners.

 I know that, I mean't in fantasy nfl.

It's less than 2 Hours to Buffalo. Basically in your backyard. Plus the Bills are a very fun team. I've had this same conversation with another fan from Toronto lol.

I think it's funny to hear baseball fans talk about downtime in the NFL since a MLB game is often entirely down time. Just a hit here and there but barely any scores ending like 2-0.

I do know some hardcore baseball fans. It honestly seems for hardcore fans that it comes down to when you grew up as a kid or teenager what was the team you were a fan of. One guy I work with grew up in Arkansas so no NFL team but had college football and watched the Cubs so he is a huge college football and MLB fan.

I followed everything as a kid and had a ton of baseball, football and basketball cards though but was a huge Suns fan since they were the only team in Phx when I was a kid and then the Chargers were about the closest NFL team and had a high powered offense.

For you, Jack, you were lucky because you had the Mariners who were likely exciting when you were in your teens and then the Sonics and Seahawks...so had fun teams to watch in all sports.

I think it's hard to pick up and become a die hard fan the older you are. I think after your teens it gets harder.

Yeah a guy at my work often just listens to baseball during the day. I can get that listening to in the background, to some extent.

Middle linebacker is in charge of the defense on the field and calling audibles to change the defensive play.

For the most part the head coach and offensive/defensive coordinator call the plays. They can choose to run it every play if they want, but like the NBA coming a 3 point shootout with the top players in the league needed to win the title, NFL has became about the air raid and you need an elite QB to win.

Guys like Peyton and Brady got to the point where they could be their own coach. And with QBs that can now pass for 4,000-5,000 along with rushing for 1,000-2,000 yards, it's just kind of how the games is. Like the ball used to mainly be in the point guards hands who ran the offense but now it's whoever the the Superstar with ball handling skills are. Jordan, Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Giannis, Harden, Luka, Beal. When guys like Kawhi, PG, Butler want the ball and to go iso, teammates get out of their way to go iso and do whatever they want.

As a fan of a team that has Derrick Henry and a mediocre QB, the QB runs the offense because the o-line just needs to know if they are blocking for pass or run. Receivers and tight end just need to know if they run their route or block for run. And if the defense is stuffing the box for the run that's when QB changes it to quick pass. Or if they know defense is dropping back I to coverage they switch it to a handoff for the running back.

I guess unless the QB is calling on himself every play and it's not working, I don't mind a QB that's been doing it since pee wee or middle school through high school, college and early career learning NFL coaches running the offense because that's what they were groomed for half of their life.

I was a fan of Ken Griffey. Attended games in the Kingdome as a kid (90's). But was a much bigger Football & Basketball fan. I also played Soccer. So those we're my primary sports. I was never big into Baseball. I guess I just didn't have the attention span for it.

I just think the entire NFL production is the far superior thing to watch over baseball or even basketball. Whether it’s the pregame shows, the post game shows or the game itself.

I also don’t get the whole “too much downtime” thing either. With replays, talking about possibilities for next play because of the field position and so on. So it’s not like there is a play and then you lose interest for 30 seconds until the next play. Football is far more of a chess game than a sport like baseball or basketball. So I feel like once you understand the game more you appreciate the chess play between downs.

This feels like the discussion when it comes to MMA. When people who don’t know the sport say it’s boring and nothing happens in the clinch or on the ground. But once you understand the sport more, you get that a lot more is going on and you appreciate those spots even more.

I’ll just say this, find me any basketball game that was more entertaining than the Bills/Chiefs playoff game last year. I’m a huge basketball fan (obvious from the amount of posts I have on here). But I’d watch a regular season NFL game over a NBA Finals game any day of the week. It’s just a better product and better sport in my opinion.

I'm sure having Daniel Snyder as your owner doesn't help either.

Unless you're a fan of a big market club, then the odds are stacked against you in Baseball without a true salary cap. It's the one thing that has always bugged me about the sport. Teams like the Yankees & Dodgers will always have a much higher payroll than the vast majority of teams.

The NFL has a level playing field. You take out the Homerun in Baseball & Football from a viewing perspective is just way more exciting. Hard hits, and freakishly skilled athletes.

Interestingly enough, I think baseball has more parity than the NFL iirc.

I see you have almost 30000 post here which is crazy, did you grow watching nfl? I grew up watching basketball & i obviously don't have the experience or the knowledge of the nfl like most people on this thread. I don't know if i would watch the superbowl over a summer league game because i just didn't grow up with it in fact i didn't know what nfl was until i was 13 watching remember the titans.

I grew up watching all 3 of the main sports (NFL, NBA, and MLB). As a kid the only channel I watched was ESPN and ESPnews (back when they actually talked sports all day). So followed the regular seasons of all 3 and didn’t miss a World Series, Super Bowl, Finals in late 90s-late 00s.

If I were to rank the sports I would watch it would be NFL, MMA, then NBA. Again I just think one of the bigger things people say they don’t like about the NFL (the gap in between plays) is a strength of the game. It gives you a breather to take in the last play (especially if it was a good play) and also gives you a quick time to try and think about the chess game going on. This is why football coaches (not just head coaches) is far far more important than NBA coaches. Its all the chess matches and adjustments mid game that go on. And I think when people get to the point of knowing the game enough to kind of understand the adjustments happening between plays. As a fan there really becomes no gaps in the game except for tv timeouts.

One question why does the time keep running during timeout?

Doesn’t keep running during timeouts. But keeps running during plays (well most plays). But ya between scores, changes of possession, and actual timeouts the clock is stopped.

The clock running during a possession becomes a huge part of the game. Clock management can play a huge part. The top tier QBs and teams usually have it mastered and can be a treat watching them move the ball in such a limited time. But again that is part of the chess match. You don’t want to score and leave too much time on the clock (assuming end of 2nd half or game), if you’re going up against a top tier QB.

6-player volleyball is a very underrated sport. It's as if basketball had good ball movement ending in a seriously contested dunk every time down the court.

2-player volleyball is a lot like tennis in bathing suits, where the tennis is from the serve-and-volley era. Playing it takes a lot of strategy, but that doesn't necessarily reflect into what one feels while viewing it on the court.

American football, as per baseball fan George Will, combines the two worst features of American life: Violence and committee meetings.

Also, in case nobody has posted it yet, the definitive comparison of baseball and American football was by George Carlin. There are longer versions, just as easily found, but this video seems to have captured the most famous part.

Why the need to add more sports? Just enjoy something else or do something productive is my advice.

I would like to add one more to watch one of these sports for next season as i have only watched sporadically each of them.

One note i don't like about the football is that the QB controls the whole offence

Thank you for reading.

honestly you would probably enjoy hockey the most. It's most similar to basketball and soccer in terms of the way the game flows and the strategies used.

Football has way too much downtime for my liking. But then, Toronto also doesn't have an NFL team so I'm not as invested in the sport.

Lol seriously, baseball is so darn boring.

Bills never got TV coverage here, bars never play Bills games, etc. so they're not something people grow up with. Obviously I stream sports now, but that connection was never made with the team.

I try to give it a shot every few years, but I never end up sticking around for a whole season.

An absence of hits isn't the same as downtime though. Good pitching is just as fun to watch as good hitting.
