No institution in the world is free and clear of sexual assault. Really tough to throw specific ones under the bus anymore.. even the catholic church and the boy scouts got issues. Im sure every university does too.

I'm going to keep consolidating the conversation here, since it's the most active.

B10 is close to a new media deal to bring in CBS and NBC, in addition to Fox, while ending all partnership with ESPN. Holy ****.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34374231/sources-big-ten-nears-media-rights-agreement-fox-cbs-nbc

Sports Business Journal first reported the outline of the Big Ten's media agreement and ESPN being out. According to sources, ESPN rejected the Big Ten's final offer of a seven-year, $380 million agreement, which would have included rights to fewer marquee games than the network's current agreement. The offer did not include a direct-to-consumer package, which ESPN valued through its growth of ESPN+.

The Big Ten's new agreement likely will feature CBS broadcasting football games in a midafternoon time slot, which had previously been filled by SEC games. Beginning in 2024, ESPN will exclusively broadcast SEC games as part of a 10-year agreement. NBC, which carries Notre Dame home football games, likely will have Big Ten football in the evening window as part of the new agreement. Sports Business Journal reported that both CBS and NBC are set to pay about $350 million for their Big Ten packages.

SBJ says this means no basketball games on ESPN, too. Wowza. What are they going to do with all of the games? Will FS2 become a standard in television packages?

https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/SB-Blogs/Newsletter-Media/2022/08/08.aspx

Barring a last-minute change of direction in the Big Ten’s media rights negotiations, ESPN will be without the conference’s football and basketball games for the first time in 40 years. With Big Ten negotiations nearing an end -- I’m told agreements could be reached by the end of this week or push into next -- CBS and NBC have emerged as the clear front runners to pick up Big Ten rights alongside Fox Sports.

Yea obviously you're right as it's a Who Cares type of things. I certainly get his point/idea that without Davis/Davison this team is a complete unknown and there's plenty of reason to be skeptical. But, obviously we all thought the same last year and look what happened. I agree, with UWs track record the last 20 years there's no way you shouldn't at least toss them on the bubble list to cover your ass a bit. If i had to guess I'd probably lean towards not making it, but who knows it could go either way.

My heart thinks that they won't, but my brain knows that so far in the past 20 years, the only way they haven't made it is if they have a team that is essentially all newcomers other than one guy and 2-3 key players get injured for the season with a another being hampered by an injury all year.

Yeah, I think I look at all of the UW teams and have pessimism about certain things and with this particular basketball team cringe about the outside shooting, but they'll find their way with Chucky/Wahl, one would think.

Interesting that NBC is apparently interested in getting into college football and hoops (other than ND football).
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I am quite possibly reading into it too much, but I'm really curious to see if there's any ND impact here. It makes me wonder if there's already signal that ND would join the B10 once their current contract is up (2024), thus NBC is positioning with the B10 to both retain ND and also fill the void/bolster their offering.

Disclaimer that the opponents suck, but so far the takeaways from the French tour, Hodges seems like he's ready to at least contribute, Ilver is drilling a lot of 3s. He was bad at shooting in games and in some international competition in the last year, so I will believe it when I see it in actual NCAA games.

Done deal. No ND news here, but more tea leaves to read.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34417911/big-ten-completes-7-year-7-billion-media-rights-agreement-fox-cbs-nbc
NBC has exclusively broadcast Notre Dame home games since 1991, but wanted to increase its college football presence. Bevacqua said NBC had been monitoring the media rights landscape and "circled" the Big Ten, which had an expiring deal with Fox and ESPN, as a potential investment.

"We were extremely motivated," Bevacqua said. "What we love about it is the combination of having Notre Dame football, and then Big Ten football in primetime on Saturday night, and then Sunday Night Football, to us, that's a really powerful weekend lineup in the football season. To be able to bring the power of those assets together really made a ton of sense to us."

Bevacqua said NBC remained "in constant contact" with Notre Dame during negotiations about obtaining a Big Ten rights package. He added that NBC will continue to broadcast some Notre Dame night home games, which would replace the Big Ten primetime game on those weeks.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick, during a virtual chat last week on the university's website, praised the Big Ten for adding NBC to its media rights deal. He added: "It's also perfect for Notre Dame. We need NBC to have more college football to more effectively promote our games and to talk about our games and to have NBC be seen in that light. So that was great for us that they got a big piece of this."

Notre Dame, which has consistently stated its desire to remain independent in football, has a contract with NBC that runs through 2025. Sources said the Big Ten's finalized media agreement will include language that addresses potential future expansion.

This is a crime. This is only supposed to be played for a late October Tennessee/Auburn afternoon game where everyone is sweating their balls off. Not Maryland vs. Rutgers.

What I find maybe more interesting at the moment are the reports that meetings have been held over college Football ditching the NCAA all together and being run by the CFP instead.

As for basketball, CBS will broadcast up to 11 regular-season men’s basketball games in 2023 and will carry 15 games (13 of which will be conference games) from 2024 onward; CBS will continue to carry the Big Ten tournament semifinals and the championship game, which leads into the CBS Selection Sunday show each March.

Peacock will stream 32 regular-season men’s basketball games (20 conference games) in 2023-24 and 47 games (32 conference games) from 2024-25 onward as well as the Big Ten tournament’s opening night doubleheader. Peacock will also stream 30 regular-season women’s basketball games (20 conference games) per year starting in 2023-24.

Fox/FS1 will carry a minimum of 45 regular-season men’s basketball games per year, while BTN will carry a minimum of 126 men’s games per year. BTN will air the four Thursday games and four quarterfinal games of the Big Ten men’s basketball tournament.

The way I saw it framed was like it was a twinkle in their eye that they are only just starting to discuss. I am guessing it's quite far away. But, who knows.

ETA: I also have lots of questions around how this even works. Money talks and they'll find a way, but I'm really curious what the way or ways would be. All other sports - including basketball, the other (much less) revenue sport - remain governed by the NCAA? Seems like a slippery slope, and also one flush with complications.

We're at the point where tradition and maintaining rivalries is going out the window, so my dream scenario would be to have football run like European soccer.

Start with a handpicked Premier League of 32 teams in 8 divisions of 4 teams. Then an "A" League, "B" League, etc. Division winners in Premier League make the playoff, last place get relegated. "A" League winners get promoted, last place get relegated and so on down through the leagues.

If you really want to spice it up, create a system where the lower-tier bowl games are 1-game playoffs where a team scheduled for relegation goes up against a team scheduled for promotion for the right to stay in their league.

They'd be better off taking it back 20 years. If kids want to go to the NFL at 18, let them. If not. Be a college athlete.

Feeling better about the Badgers after the France trip. I understand the competition was week. Still got to see the expanded skillsets and improvements from the team.

Chucky and Wahl are a nice 1-2 combo. Crowl is poised to take that Jr. big man jump we've seen with previous big men. Looks like Davis will make a jump, too. Klesmit looks like he'll be contributor. So do Ilver and Hodges. Others as well. There could be a lot of players ready to contribute to the tea.

I was thinking this could be a bad shooting team, even by UW standards. Now I'm thinking they could actually be a good shooting team (insert Uma Thurman "hot damn" gif).

Not sure about McGee as the back up point. I think he'll be OK, but not convinced. Hodges as the 3rd big is worrisome. He needs to develop and be ready for 20 mins a night.

Chucky, Wahl, Crowl and Hodges have to stay healthy. Unproven or nonexistent depth after them.

If somehow they could add a ready big I'd be real happy with the team. I know it's a small ball era, but if Ilver and/or Gilmore have to get extended minutes in the post, I don't see how that's turns out well.

Still, all in all, starting to really like this team next year. It's looking a like a deep roster.

I think Potrykus had a solid take on it.

Yes, terrible competition. I'm not printing another conference title banner, but given terrible competition, imagine if they were missing all of those 3s against them. Even if competition was too easy, they were hitting the shots.

Yes they did hit their shots and looked good doing it. Ilver and Klesmit looked they have reals shots. Davis probably wont be as good a shooter as he showed in France. I still think he's gonna be a contributor and the other shooters looks solid.

Based on who they reportedly sniffed around during portal season and the lack of other options on the roster, they must feel Hodges is ready. He'll have to be. Do not want to see Wahl picking up emergency minutes at the 5.

Essegian's jumper looks very smooth. He may have work to do at every other facet of the game, but he could probably step in and hit a couple 3s every game if nothing else.
