Tafara Gapare ('03)

Hey guys.

You may remember I made a video on Josh Giddey last year before he blew up in the NBL. I've made another one, and it's of a player that, in my opinion, is totally tucked away, well off the radar, but has a really unique ceiling as a player.

The video will speak for itself, so I won't write anything too in depth here, but basically he's a New Zealand kid that is on the raw side, isn't always playing against the highest level of competition, but when he has he's been really impressive. For a 6'9 combo forward type, some very special on ball ability.

He's currently committed to George Washington.

In theory, 2022 draft candidate, but in my opinion it may take him a few college seasons to put it all together, it'll be a big transition for him. If and when he does though, I think he has 1st round potential.

Love to hear your thoughts on him.

This guy looks legit. Just saw the news that he reclassified to 2022 and will be enrolling at UMass in the fall. He just turned 19 so obviously he's eligible for 2023 draft.

I'll check out your video but this one is super recent, with footage from the Gym Rat Challenge which was at the end of May 2022:

Looks like he's been working on some of the stuff you mentioned in your video, like the shooting form..

6'9" or 6'10"
His frame looks stronger in this vid too than in other ones i've seen
Moves fast, fluid, decently athletic
Rim protector
Nice change of direction at the last minute, body control on some finishes near the basket
Smooth, effortless on 3's
Solid handle
Making live dribble passes

Very interested to see him play this season. Could be a guy that rises up boards and into the 1st round..

His situation is somewhat tumultuous. He's finally settled on UMass, and I'm glad he reclassified, but this is his third 'commitment' after George Washington and DePaul.

The talent though, I don't question. He's only played against high level comp for 6-12 months now that he's in the States.. he's got a long way to make good on his potential, but the tools are really awesome.
