People already forget that prior to 2015, a large portion of the NBA fans, announcers, analysts and likely coaches/front office workers did not see a viable strategy to winning a championship when a team relied heavily on jump shots.
This is still the biggest thing to me about this era and how it has completely changed the view of team building and prevelance of spacing required to compete in todays NBA versus previous eras.

Is John Wall really considered a great player even now, though? Because "great" is a really strong word for him.

The whole idea that you can't win a title with Rudy/Giannis/Montrezl (insert your own player who doesn't have great shooting range) because you can "game" your playoff team for them. Similarly, there will probably either be a backlash against the spamming of 3's where some team will successfully counterprogram against the trend or the NBA will move the line back and eliminate the corner 3; then people will treat the last 5 years like the shortened 3 point years in the 90s and ignore the context and details of the current thinking.

I mean you already see this board all the time talking about how Curry changed the game and how everything about basketball is being driven by Curry.
There is some truth to that, but far less than his fans make it out to be. What will get lost from this generation is that Curry remains very much an outlier. This is still a big man's game and big men have dominated--outside of Steph and the absurdly talented Warriors. Lebron and Giannis and Jokic and Embiid and Kawhi and even into the next generation we see Luka coming.
I have a feeling that the story that will be written will be about the 3-pt shot and it should be, but when we remember the best players, its not the snipers(Again other than Curry obviously), its still the bigs.

An interesting point.
Do you consider Oscar, Magic and Scottie "bigs?" Curious, just because of how you have labeled Lebron and Luka and Kawhi.

I don't mean bigs in terms of position. I mean literal physical size. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough on that. Even the perimeter players who have driven winning, have been bigger guys. Your Mikes and Kobes were big 2 guards. Obviously Magic and Lebron huge PG's, etc...
So yeah I would talk about all three of those guys as big in the context I meant it.

You see, my grandson, there was this guy called Ricky Rubio, who managed to be a star with no scoring ability whatsoever...

No for sure, that's why I asked and used those guys as examples. That makes sense. Cheers.

Somethingh else a bit forgotten is that while curry and the warriors consolidated the trend in 2015/2016 the league already was trending quickly towards spacing, 3 point shooting and small ball before 2015
