Preference between Herro and Poole?

Post#1 » by DubsDynasty » Thu Aug 18, 2022 2:57 am

Who would you prefer for your team between the two and why? Both need extensions now or you risk paying more in RFA. What sort of extension would you be comfortable with?

Poole is more explosive going to the rim and stopping/stepping back. Hero would have to become a better flopper or defender to put him above Poole for me

For me it’s a pretty easy decision, Poole

I would easily prefer Poole. I would be shocked if he doesn't demand AT LEAST a contract akin to what Brunson and A. Simons got this offseason. Heck he might even get a max offer if he continues his improvement.

Herro. He's an offseason of PEDs away from adding the necessary size, strength and increased explosion he needs to join the likes of Ingram, DeRozan, Hayward, LaVine and Brown. He's a very crafty offensive player and can score in a variety of ways. Finishing around the rim and playing through contact better would really take his game to the next level. I think his defense would improve as well. He and Poole are the same age and Herro was better at everything except FT% and 2PT % so I'm not understanding why Poole is winning this poll.

Poole, because I'm a Warrior fan.

In all seriousness, I think it's close right now, but Poole just seems to have more potential. Being able to create off the dribble isn't something easy to learn or get better at. Defense and shooting is, though, at least relative to shot creation/playmaking.

Poole, better ISO numbers and isn’t hunted on defense as much as Herro.

Herro is bad on defense, that’s why he is playing off the bench. But Herro scores more pts in crunch time (because heat lacks a perimeter scot creator outside Jimmy unlike Warriors) , this is where the illusion of him being the better gets into the picture.

That said, Poole is a guy better to be a starter or to play a bigger role than Herro.

Herro was battling a groin injury in the playoffs this season.

I think they both have around the same impact.

Ehhh, I think Herro should be better (size matters), but he currently isn’t. They’re both pretty awful defenders, but Herro seems like he could get better. Poole is more deadly in transition, but Herro seems like a better half court player. They each fit their teams.

Pretty close. If I had to make one a starter, I’d probably choose Poole, but if I was picking a 6th man, Herro.

They are pretty much the same size all things considered. Herro is an inch taller, Poole has a longer wingspan, both had almost the same listed weight entering the league.

If they were both seeking the same type of contract, Herro. But they're not, so probably Poole.

As a Warrior fan, I'm surprised that so many on GB prefer Poole over Herro, who is getting/asking for a max contract.

This is actually a really good comparison. I like both players but I prefer watching Poole. With that being said Herro to me had a slightly better season but I think Poole has a higher ceiling because he's a more versatile scorer. Neither really offer much defensively but I do think Herro is probably as good as he'll get while I think Poole can take another step or 2 forward. Herro does a great job getting to his spots and hitting jumpers but Poole' offensive arsenal, as far as moves and shot making ability goes, is pretty elite and rare

Herro is the better player currently, but Poole has a higher ceiling.

The issue with Poole right now is he can be completely shut down by physicality. Put any guy on him that can get physical and push him around and he turns into a 13 PPG 1 reb 1 assist guy.

Can he change this? Time will tell.

It's probably the "blowing in the playoffs" thing.

The number one premium on a skill in the NBA is shot creation. Poole has him beat badly there. Both very nice players, but Poole’s ability to get shots off in iso and off the dribble give him the edge.
