RJ Barrett expectation for 2022-2023 season

Post#1 » by IQ_baller » Thu Aug 18, 2022 2:59 pm

Is he going to finally put it together and take the next step? Or will he remain the same? What will his Stateline look like?

I have him averaging:
21 ppg
5.5 rpg
3.5 apg

The key with him will be his efficiency numbers

over 50% at the basket, over 30% three point shots, not being a turnstile, not getting in the way of Randle, should be a decent start!

This. It's all about him showing that he deserves to have a high usage on offense. It doesn't matter what his stat line will be – unless he becomes a lot more efficient, teams that want to win are not going to put the ball in his hands going forward.

Being efficient scoring wise. Become a better playmaker. Also play better defense. If he can do that, while averaging around 21-24 points per game, I would call it a nice improvement from him.

Consistency and he needs to start showing he can create on his own. His handle has been pretty poor and he can’t hit jumpers off the dribble

The expectations at this point should be pretty high. He's in line for an extension and needs to show he's worth the big investment.

Unless they make a trade for Mitchell, he's in the perfect position to blossom into a legit first option. Like his game (when he's on) and his attitude/work ethic, but he's not too far off from falling into that Timberwolves Wiggins mold. He needs to become more efficient, consistent and needs to keep improving his defense/playmaking.

He needs a shot of alpha juice or something to get him going. He's got so much potential, but not enough attitude. (Hmm, sounds like another highly-drafted Canadian who now plays for GSW). If he gets the attitude, he has the skill and size to be a 25-27 ppg guy on good efficiency, and a team leader. Right now he's too likeable. Has he ever pissed anyone off? Ever?

i don’t think aggression is his issue really… he might be aggressive to be honest for his efficiency level. to his credit i’d see him get stuffed at the rim a few times in a row and it won’t deter him from continuing to put his head down and go inside. he needs to learn how to use his strength to his advantage and finish thru contact more often to offset his somewhat lacking athleticism at the basket

Yeah, maybe it's just more explosiveness he needs, as opposed to aggression.

I never was impressed watching him, not that he is bad, he will just never reach his draft status or hype. Maybe a Wiggins type impact some day. He does seem to go off playing my team though, always a chance he becomes the guy.

I think he has another jump in store, eventually getting a few All-Star nods during his career as well.

Let's see... I thought he had it in him in the past season, didn't happen.

And now, with Brunson and potentially Mitchell in the mix, the opportunity to have higher counting stats is diminished.

It will be tough playing behind Randle and Brunson, if they get Mitchell then RJ will be playing off-ball most of the time.

Doesn't look that impressive. No consistency to his three. No real touch outside of 10 feet. Not impressive finishing in close. Weak at the line for a perimeter player. Averaging about 6% below league-average TS% over his first three seasons. Averaging 44.5% on 2FGA to date. I guess he's got the size and he's got the footwork and so forth, and two years ago, he flashed what he might look like with a three.

Eh? I'm not expecting much this season. 6 boards and 3 assists seems likely. 18-21 ppg seems likely. Wouldn't call it a particularly good idea to run that much offense through him, but maybe he'll have a little bit of extra load off with Brunson onboard.

If the Knicks get Mitchell and keep Barrett he should get some easier looks and so I would expect his efficiency to rebound. 18-20 ppg at .450 FG%, .380 3pt.

If he gets traded to Utah in a Mitchell trade then I'd expect his scoring to go up on a similar efficiency as last year.

Honestly just needs to improve his 3pt% by 1-2% each year, he’s a hell of a player. His handles will take time.

I think his efficiency tanked last season because of the added offensive responsibilities along with the fact that they lost Rose for the majority of the season and have a solid playmaker to run the show.

The addition of Brunson is going to be great for both him and Randle imo.
