[Shams] Nets telling teams they intend to keep Kyrie

Post#1 » by HotRocks34 » Mon Aug 22, 2022 9:05 pm

https://theathletic.com/3526628/2022/08/22/kevin-durant-donovan-mitchell-trade-talk-shams/

For their part, the Nets believe they have improved the roster and have a championship-level team. The Nets traded for Royce O’Neale, signed T.J. Warren and brought back Patty Mills and Nic Claxton while expecting the full returns of three-time All-Star Simmons and Joe Harris. All-Star Kyrie Irving also opted into his $37 million player option, committed to the 2022-23 season in Brooklyn and sources with knowledge of the situation say he has been working out with teammates and holding constructive dialogue with the organization this offseason. Brooklyn has made clear to interested teams that they plan to keep the seven-time All-Star, according to sources.

With Kyrie seemingly in the fold for the 2022-23 campaign, it remains to be seen if the Nets can hang onto Durant and engage the "Run It Back" scenario for the squad.

I think the circus may be coming to a close.

Read on Twitter

That was apparently two days ago.

But still, the Nets have to lock-in Durant. Although, they may have already decided they will retain Kyrie regardless of what happens to Durant.

A more honest title would have been: Nets tell Lakers they intend to keep Kyrie; the 28 other teams tell New Jersey to stfu and stop calling

The Nets are clearly feeding Shams these "updates". All the leaks about the KD offers seem to be the Nets trying to get teams to raise their offers.

I hope that Shams is either getting his information about Kyrie from either Kyrie himself or the Nets.

If the Nets intend to keep Kyrie, no group would know that information better than the Nets themselves.

So that would be the best source.

not necessarily. If they are telling other teams, it could be possible to get that information from any number of teams.

This all changes of course assuming they can get fair value for Durant...

Kyrie, Curry, O'Neale, Durant, Simmons
Mills, Thomas, Harris, Warren, Claxton

If the team plays they have a championship level roster I think.

What "teams"? The Lakers are just one individual organization.

If they can pull this off, they might even win a championship this season! Nice lineup!

I'm so tired of having to interpret every insider tweet from a leverage standpoint lol. This one was probably from the Nets to signal to potential KD bidders that they're happy to run this back unless an offer bowls them over. I still think if KD is gone, Kyrie is probably gone.

Why would they start Simmons at center?

To take advantage of his size and defense and mitigate the fact that he doesn't shoot. Lots of people have been suggesting Ben play at the 4 or 5 for quite a while now.

Yep it's the right spot for him on the Nets. Durant's size at PF makes it all the more possible too.
