I wanted SGA in his draft so I can see a path to winning basketball with him and Presti might not have the unrealistic demands Ainge does. It may not be as sexy for the press conference but he's a better fit. He may not be a good of a pure scorer as Mitchell is but he's a better all around two way player and he has the size and length paired with RJ to make the Knick competitive against any wing combo they'd see.

Would they take back a couple of the 1sts they sent NYK to get the #11 along with one or two of the Knicks own picks now that Chet is out for the year? I'm not sure Presti would need as much young player compensation either allowing the Knicks to keep most of their youth. Presti getting picks in acquiring SGA for PG then getting picks for SGA is a win both ways and he doesn't need the rob anyone to pad his rep.

I don't know SGA has the type of league wide respect that would attract another star like Mitchell might but if the Knicks are winning that is enough lure. Besides, if it allows the Knicks to have the assets to trade for another star then that might not even matter much anyway. Maybe Rose should leak this 'rumor' to keep Ainge in his feels about it, it's an interesting idea to consider.

Totally agree with Alan Hahn. Don’t give into Danny boy’s games. Stand firm and make it clear to the Jazz that you are willing to walk. There has already been rumors out there of Knicks offering Obi, 5 FRPs. Any trade that Ainge makes with another team has to be better than that or else he will look bad to Jazz fans. IMHO, no one can beat that deal.

Honestly look around the league? How many teams are willing to give up 3 unprotected picks for Mitchell?

Raptors - Haven’t shown that much interest in Donovan and since Masai has been president they haven’t traded more than 1 first rounder in any trade. They didn’t even trade 2 firsts in the Kawhi deal

Cavs - Can only give up 25, 27 and 29 picks. Is it really smart for them to trade all their draft capital for a max player who doesn’t fit defensively with Garland and prevents them from offering Mobley a 5 year max?

OKC, Houston, Magic - Are all tanking and it doesn’t make sense to trade 3 picks for Mitchell before seeing how their young players develop

Pelicans - Just traded for CJ so overpaying now for Mitchell would be a weird fit

Every other team - Can only trade two picks or less

2 unprotected picks and up to 3/4 protected picks is by far the best offer Ainge is going to get even if you value all 4 protected picks collectively as 1 unprotected pick. Throw in a couple of swaps and just make it a deal

Assuming this is a good representation of the league’s ability to trade for him, we’ve got this in the bag. Rose knows this so we just wait until the price is realistic.

Idk why in any world someone would rather trade Obi than Grimes or IQ if we’re trading for another guard, after already getting Brunson.

DRose would still be here too, although everyone has basically written him off. There would be no minutes for 5 guards unless we playing Grimes at SF most of the time where hes undersized, and then Cam gets buried if hes still around.

Cam is not a PF outside of spot minutes here and there, as he has the strength of a tween. His main value is that hes a long wing.

Obi gives us a whole nother dimension at PF than Julius, and as he ages should be able to play more smallball 5. Not to mention just being Julius insurance.

The Jazz can take Grimes or IQ along with the 5-6 picks or suck it is what Im sayin.

Im not sure Mitchell's better scoring (and its really not a huge margin) outweigh the defensive back court issues he'd compound. If the price was less for SGA , he's the better fit IMO. He really doesn't have any major flaws to his game and has not even hit his prime.

SGA is not overrated as a defender.

Donovan Mitchell is a MUCH better scorer than SGA.

He gets hidden on defense and guards the weakest matchups and doesn’t really make a defensive impact. He’s in the No 3 No D category

He has had a negative DEF RAPTOR all 3 years too. Again not an end all be all stat but I wouldn't call him a plus defender.

Well, now that Chet is out for the season, this is certainly the time Presti may be up for deal making. It would be hard to put SGA through the ringer with another 20 win complete tank job where he doesn't even play the last third of the season again..

Mitchell played with Gobert, Conley, and a full lineup of legit NBA players. Of course his ability to "win" looks better than SGA's. SGA has been the difference between a plucky team that has a fighting chance in most games and utter annihilation. Any time he's played on a real team, that team has been good.

He's getting the Rookie max deal right now? Starting this year...31/33/36/38/40 is his contract. That's an awful.lot for a non superstar.
