First preseason game is nationally televised on TNT. So the Knicks decided to run back a treadmill team, they will have an absolutely mediocre team with no hope, the exact opposite of the Pistons rising stars.

I don’t remember how preseason goes relative to lineups but I would think Game 1 is where we’re most likely to see the projected starting lineup play the most minutes together. Like the NFL; get them out there right away so there’s time to react in the ensuing preseason games if it looks like there’s a serious issue. Then if it looks good they don’t play a lot after that in order to ensure health.

Training camp starts in about 3 weeks. I'm wondering whether or not Kemba will be there... Is he awaiting a buyout, is he awaiting a trade, or is he going into the season with the plan of showing what he's got in order to drum up interest from a contender?

As far as playing time goes, its really depended on the coach and the year. Last season Casey played a bunch of guys about half a game (20 to 28 minutes)... Cade was injured tho its hard to say what he would have been minutes wise if healthy. Probably close to Grant's 28 MPG.

They've currently got 17 players (with Kemba, Knox, Saben or McGruder possibly 2 odd guys out).... so they could use some of the Preseason to really give these guys a last chance to make the roster. I know that happened the year Wood beat out old man Joe Johnson. Wood really came into that season as the 16th man and most likely to be cut but then he averaged 13 PPG in 17 MPG (under Casey) and earned his spot. Joe Johnson got cut even though he had ties to our management group.

I'd imagine if we are considering cutting Saben Lee, he'll know in advance his spot (and possible NBA career) are on the line this pre-season and they'll give him decent minutes to see if he's worth keeping around or letting go.

I'm guessing Knox will stick around as a new free agent we paid more than the minimum for. I'd put money on Kemba being bought out and Saben Lee getting cut.

Saben Lee is a really puzzling player. At one time, he was one of my favorites because he attacked and looked good every time I watched him. He had a great streak at the end of his rookie year. Then he was tearing it up with the Cruise. He was on a real hot streak but it looked like he was not getting an opportunity after coming up from the cruise. Towards the end of last year, he seemed to have lost something though. In summer league he did not look good, and it seemed everything he threw up was blocked. What happened to him?

Ultra aggressive, fast as hell, and running the point.


There is huge upside. They almost always blossom into at least a rotation player, that once in awhile awes you. Saben on the other hand clutches up, gets nervous, and makes just brutal decisions with the ball. I don't know how many times last season where me and my brother are watching a game, Saben comes in(much to my dismay)and you can see it coming;

Dribble for about 13 seconds, then penetrate into the lane, get caught flat-footed, puts up a desperation shot, damn near under the rim, and gets his shot blocked like he's 6 years old, and dad just came over and squashed it.

He over dribbles to an insane degree, then at the end of the shot-clock, makes a terrible decision. Rinse, wash, repeat.

He needs to see a sports psychologist, to help him better understand how a team works, and how to overcome his in-game yips. It's excruciating to watch him play free elsewhere, but when he hits the court on the big-stage, and bam! freeze up.

Killian may mostly suck, but at least he has some NBA-level skills (court vision, great hands defensively, good size).

Exactly. And don't get me wrong--fall/winter comes with football, basketball, hunting, hockey, skiing, ice fishing, and going to Phoenix for golf in January; all things I love and look forward to as well. I'm just not in any hurry to get through any time of year except February. That's the month-long gap in which all hunting is over, I've done generally already done all my winter stuff, NFL and NCAA football is done, NBA and NHL are mid-season, and March Madness hasn't started yet.

So yeah, February sucks.

At that point you just want it to end. The snow has lost it's luster, and is now mostly brown with mud, and exhaust. It's bitterly cold(coldest day ever recorded in Michigan was in Febuary -51°F), and starting to get wetter.

I'm starting to think I need to buy a winter cabin in Tennessee, and stay there after Christmas, and come back mid-March.

At that point you just want it to end. The snow has lost it's luster, and is now mostly brown with mud, and exhaust. It's bitterly cold(coldest day ever recorded in Michigan was in Febuary -51°F), and starting to get wetter.

I'm starting to think I need to buy a winter cabin in Tennessee, and stay there after Christmas, and come back mid-March.

I bought a nice little 2BR, 2BA house on a nice wooded lot in a golf course community in Crossville last fall. The previous owners had only owned it for a few years and didn't have much into it but desperately wanted some financial cushion and didn't want to move, which selling it to someone who was looking to move into it would have guaranteed. So the deal was that I assumed the mortgage/property taxes/insurance and they keep living there but just pay the utilities, and I got all the equity. Right now it's worth double what's been put into it (what they paid for it plus what I've paid toward the principal so far) due to rising prices in that housing market plus inflation, so both parties made out pretty nicely. Strange but sad part of the story...it's the second marriage for both of them and she has one son who is within a couple months of being the same age as me. However when they approached him about working out the same deal the son's wife was all giddy about the idea of getting that equity and the lady didn't trust that her son would stand up to his wife and not let her try to sell the house. I actually was talking to the superintendent of a golf course there about looking for a place in that area, but wouldn't do anything now while I was still working since the place would just be sitting empty most of the time. He's good friends with the husband, told me about the situation, I went and looked at the place, looked at the comps, and jumped all over it. I was 100% straightforward with them and told them that if they sold it they'd have plenty of money to put toward renting an apartment for a long while, but they love the house and were dead set on wanting to be there until they passed away (they're in their early 80's).

Always liked the idea of having a second property to espace to. Away from everything, and place to relax. Away from the winter.

Yeah, I've got 100 acres just south of Big Rapids with a lake on it where I hunt and fish, and I want to build a glorified shed/cabin there next year. Basically just something like 16x20 or 12x24 with power run to it, an elevated indoor water tank to create pressure (filled by hand with portable 5 gallon jugs I already have), a small electric on demand water heater, and a shower that just drains through the floor into a small septic field underneath the platform the shed will sit on. I've got a nice flushing camp toilet with attached water tank that I'll use for the deuces and just empty that out into the field so there's no black water going into the same spot all the time, and thus no expensive true septic field needed. I'll do some finishing work to add a sink/countertop/cabinets, lights/ceiling fans, and beds, then just have a single roll up garage door for easily getting my aluminum boat and likely a quad in and out of, and a single man door. No windows so no tax man can peek in and say "Ah hah! Occupied structure!" and raise my property taxes to homestead rates. Between that for hunting in the fall/winter and camping in the summer, living on my boat on Lake St. Clair in the summer, and the house in Tennessee once it's no longer occupied, I've pretty much got all the bases covered.

I love everything about this, but the septic situation. I mean I get it concerning the cost, but I've seen some situations just as you've described, and the oder, when its warm, is less then pleasant, and just taints the whole experience.

I spent a ton of time on a dairy farm in the U.P., so the stench of manure doesn't usually bother me, but human waste has a rather unique pungent aspect to it.
