Re: Lakers Trade IDEAS
I am not a member of this board, but I just thought of a 3 way Trade involving the Lakers that works under the CBA and was wondering Laker fans reaction. Despite all the smoke about Irving, if Brooklyn wanted to move on from him, here's a deal that does it:
Lakers Incoming: Kyrie Irving from Brooklyn and Bojan Bogdanovic from Utah
Lakers Outgoing: Russell Westbrook and Lakers UNPROTECTED 2027 and 2029 First Round Picks to Utah
Lakers 2023 Net Team Salary Increases by $9,421,072
Utah Outgoing: Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gay to Brooklyn, Bojan Bogdanovic to Lakers
Utah Incoming: Russell Westbrook and Lakers 2027 and 2029 UNPROTECTED 1rst Round Picks; Two 2nd Round Picks from Nets
Utah 2023 Net Team Salary Decrease of $9,022,802
Brooklyn Outgoing: Kyrie Irving (probably would have to send Two 2nd Round Picks to Utah)
Brooklyn Incoming: Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gay from Utah Jazz
Brooklyn 2023 Net Team Salary Decreases by $398,270

Irving, as a knucklehead, doesn't has much more value than WB at this stage. You think throwing Irving out can net you a Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gay ?

Lakers, Detroit and Utah.
Utah get: Westbrook + 1frp (protected)
Why? Save money. Get pick.
Detroit get: Bojan + 1 frp (protected)
Why? Save money. Get pick.
Lakers get: Conley, Burks, Olynyk.
Why? Get 3 shooters. A wing that can defend some. A 5 that can shoot. And a starting caliber 1.

Re: Lakers Trade IDEAS
Olynyk and Conley are signed through 23-24 so that would kill our cap space next summer.
We just dumped THT for an expiring presumably to stay flexible next year.
I don’t see us taking on Conely and Olynyk.

I dont think Lakers should be looking at cap space for next summer. That ship has sailed in my opinion. The time to win is now and all the rumored deals we've heard about so far has Lakers taking on some long-term money.
I do get the idea of adding guys that are free agents next summer in order to add another big name, but not at the expense of wining this season.

Why would Utah want Westbrook. Ainge wants Sexton to show out and be future trade bait for more picks.
And on a bad team, Westbrook would put up big numbers and eek out some wins when they would rather be tanking

Re: Lakers Trade IDEAS
Well, I'm not a participant on this board and am just posting a second attempt at a trade to improve the Lakers. It seems that the Lakers roster lacks quality depth behind LeBron and Davis, and so you either tank for the #1 pick or try to upgrade. Here is a trade that brings in depth, but at a cost to the Lakers. Wondering if any of you think it's worth it??
Lakers Incoming from Utah Jazz:
Mike Conley ($22,680,000 signed thru 2024 with $14,320,000 guaranteed in 2024 (2024 salary is 24,360,000)
Jordan Clarkson ($13,340,00 with Player Option for 2024)
Bojan Bogdanovic ($19,550,000 expiring)
Lakers Net 2023 Salary Incoming is $55,570,000
Lakers Outgoing to Utah
Russell Westbrook ($47,063,078 Expiring)
Lakers Unprotected 2027 and 2029 1rst Round Picks
Salary Outgoing to Utah is $47,063,078
Utah 2023 Team Salary Decreases by $8,506,922
Lakers 2023 Team Salary Increases by $8,506,922 (before factoring effect of luxury tax)
Lakers Incoming from Utah Jazz:
Mike Conley ($22,680,000 signed thru 2024 with $14,320,000 guaranteed in 2024 (2024 salary is 24,360,000)
Jordan Clarkson ($13,340,00 with Player Option for 2024)
Bojan Bogdanovic ($19,550,000 expiring)
Lakers Net 2023 Salary Incoming is $55,570,000
Lakers Outgoing to Utah
Russell Westbrook ($47,063,078 Expiring)
Lakers Unprotected 2027 and 2029 1rst Round Picks
Salary Outgoing to Utah is $47,063,078
Utah 2023 Team Salary Decreases by $8,506,922

Re: Lakers Trade IDEAS
Swap Beasley and Clarkson and you'll probably get a top 15 protected 27 1st and 2 2nds for that package at best. Clarkson is trash, Conley is borderline starter caliber with a contract lasting longer than a year, Bogi is good.

I just realized that Malik Bradley’s salary is unguaranteed in 2024, so it is effectively a Team Option; whereas Jordan Clarkson has a Player Option for 2024. Beasley makes around $2.2M per year more per year than Clarkson, but the 3 for 1 trade would still work under the CBA with Beasley in place of Clarkson.

Re: Lakers Trade IDEAS
I think Laker fans need to look at this from Utah's perspective GOING FORWARD (after the Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell trades where Utah took a lot of salary back but got a lot of draft picks).
Utah is at $144M in Team salary, which is $32 Million above minimum Team salary of $112M and $6M below the luxury tax line.
Utah will look to do trades where they take less salary in than they send out, to try to get closer to the minimum team salary of $112M now that Utah is in Tank mode.
The five players that Utah is dangling can all produce a return individually so to get a collection of them is going to cost, but only if Utah is sending out more salary than they are taking in.
Giving bubkus for a collection of them won't work since they all are individually worth at least a 2nd Round Pick (Gay), with the rest having significantly higher stand alone value.
Bojan Bogdanovic - Age 33 - ($19,550,000 expiring)
Mike Conley - Age 34 - ($22,680,000 signed thru 2024 with $14,320,000 guaranteed in 2024 (2024 salary is 24,360,000)
Jordan Clarkson - Age 30 - ($13,340,000 with $14,260,000 Player Option for 2024)
Malik Beasley - Age 25 - $15,558,035 with 2024 salary of $16,524,106 fully Unguaranteed, effectively a Team Option
Rudy Gay - Age 36 - $6,184,500 with $6,479,000 Player Option for 2024
So, if Westbrook ($47,063,078) was Utah's incoming, the outgoing combinations totaling more than Westbrook's salary that are still within the CBA's limits for the deal to work are:
Bogdanovic, Conley and Gay = $48,414,500
Bogdanovic, Clarkson, Beasley and Gay = $54,632,535
Bogdanovic, Conley and Clarkson = $55,570,000
Bogdanovic, Conley and Beasley = $57,788,035
A deal like Bogdanovic, Clarkson and Gay would be out of the question for Utah because at only $40M in outgoing salary it would put Utah $1M over the luxury tax line (adds $7 Million of direct salary plus you give up the payment non-tax paying teams receive at the end of the year, which is typically at least $4.5M per team - Utah ain't doing that under any circumstances since they are now in Tank Mode).
Bogdanovic, Beasley and Gay would also be unlikely as that would mean that Utah is adding $5.77M of salary and put their team salary at nearly $150M - I don't think that Utah would do that even if they were offered the 2027 and 2029 Picks without any Protections. Utah wants less salary, not more.

Trading for more guards like Conley and Clarkson would be a mistake imo. Teams with Lebron don’t need dominant PGs. Bogdanovic would be a nice fit, though.

Bog, beasley, Clarkson, and gay for Westbrook is what needs to happen... They will save approximately 6+ mil a year

So Utah wants to get rid of Conley, Bojan, Beasley, Clarkson and Gay. They want to take back less money. They want to take back fewer players (they have too many under contract). Bogdonovic is best guarding fours nowadays. Clarkson would be a bad fit, but Conley would fit like a glove. He's not ball-dominant and his catch and shoot three-ball is deadly ... same with Beasley (who should be included instead of Clarkson imo).

Re: Lakers Trade IDEAS
Do you guys remember how poorly both Crowder and Clarkson played next to Lebron the one season in Cleveland.
Pre tatt Clarkson was okay during the regular season, but couldnt hit a shot in the playoffs. And Crowder just didn't play well next to Lebron in general.
I saw crowder mentioned in some posts above

Bogdanovic, Beasley and Gay would also be unlikely as that would mean that Utah is adding $5.77M of salary and put their team salary at nearly $150M - I don't think that Utah would do that even if they were offered the 2027 and 2029 Picks without any Protections. Utah wants less salary, not more.
So Utah wants to get rid of Conley, Bojan, Beasley, Clarkson and Gay. They want to take back less money. They want to take back fewer players (they have too many under contract). They also want draft capital. Well the Lakers do not want Conley's or Gay's future money nor do the want to give up both of their future picks for any combination of those players. So go ahead and find trades that will accomplish all of Utah's goals elsewhere.
Simple trade: LA, Utah, Indy
Utah get: Westbrook + Nunn + 1 FRP
Why? Save 10M. Cut 2 roster-spots. Get 1 pick. Then they buy-out WB and save a couple of extra millions. Test Nunn.
Indy get: Bojan + 1 FRP + cash
They get a pick for Myles. Bojan is dead money, basically, so they buy him out or flip him at the deadline.
LA get: Conley, Beasley, Gay and Myles
Buddy would be nice, but Beasley was 2nd in the league in 3s per 48 last year. Conley is still solid as hell and Myles is the best possible fit next to AD. Gay is depth at the wing.
Conley - Reaves - Lonnie
Beverley - Beasley - Lonnie
Lebron - Gay - Troy
Davis - JTA - Gabriel
Myles - Bryant - Jones
