I fully expect Ainge to sit on his hands and piss away all these assets, or for it to take an absolute eternity to be good again. I don't think I'm team championship or bust anymore, I just want to watch good basketball. If a core reaches the level of being a contender, great, but 20-35 wins just sounds like a really boring place to be.

Sorry but treadmill is not fun either.

A second round team is one lucky break from making it to the finals. I realize that we whiffed on most of our chances to get that lucky break by wasting first round picks - but I'm not excited about where we are at all.

We had plenty of lucky breaks and still failed miserably. Examples: Leonard getting injured in a season where the entire league had many injuries and the road to the finals was as open as ever had been, and we still lost. Or when Doncic was injured and on the bench for 3 games and we still couldn't even get past the first round. Or leading 3-1 against the Nuggets and losing. This team had all the lucky breaks anyone can ask for and managed to waste them all, which is why we're probably going into a full rebuild.

Personally, in the past few years I have been the least excited about the Jazz as I have ever been, to the point of not watching games at all over the past 2 seasons other than the playoffs. I think I've watched less than 10 regular season games in total, and haven't bothered with following the draft, training camp, summer league, etc. I'm more excited about the Jazz now (or at least I will be once the direction is finally decided with a DM trade) than I've been in a long time. The past 5-8 years felt like a waste of time for me, building around a core that was clear to me was going no where.

As for good basketball, there are 29 other teams to watch while the Jazz are bad. And besides, you can still play good basketball even as a losing team, and lose because a lack of talent but not due to poor execution.

I have much more confidence in Ainge than I had in DL. Ainge has proved he can create a team that can go places, either through trades or through the draft.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

I'm excited to see Butler and Udoka though. At the very least the team will have long term complementary pieces if they won't be the franchise cornerstones

And as much as it pains to watch JC shoot them out of crucial ball games, how fun would it be to watch him get streaky and drop 40+ every night before the trade deadline

I'm thinking Jalen Suggs would be fun back with Butler again. Trade with Magic?

Don't think Orlando would agree considering they haven't seen the potential of that backcourt with Suggs and Fultz. If the trade piece is JC, they also already have their microwave scorer in Ross, although he hasn't played much last season

I would do a trade with the Lakers to get the 2 future 1st rounders, even if it includes shipping off 2 good players ( it will makes us a bottom 5 team if we trade Bojan and another.

Media reports that the Knicks offered us Obi Toppin, IQ and 4 picks for Mitchell.....Im good if we get 5. And if we should immediately trade any knick talent for picks.

Boston tanked so hard and the Brooklyn picks gave them the #3 pick two years in a row.......our best chance for a championship is to get a few top 5 picks....then rebuild with all the picks.

It would appear that the Pacers are willing to give up Hield and Turner for those two picks and RW. Can the Jazz, as part of the Knicks deal, match or better that?

Here is a thought, a 4 team trade involving the Knicks, Pacers, Lakers and Jazz

Knicks in- Mitchell

Pacers in- Fournier or Randle and 2023 pick from Utah (the lessor of pick obtained from Brooklyn) or one of the Knicks protected picks.

Lakers in- Myles Turner, Bogey (edit add in Gay)

Jazz in- Knicks young players and picks package, RW and 27 and 29 Lakers FRPs.

Edit: I'll elaborate:

Pacers have Haliburton, Jalen Smith and #6 pick Mathurin as a young core, and Pacers historically don't tank. So, they probably don't want to be in the Russell Westbrook sweepstakes. They need a forward to balance their roster, and have hung Myles Turner for a FRP for a while now.

Lakers have indicated that they will give up their 2027 and 2029 FRPs if it can get a roster that could win it all. Beverley/Lebron/Bogey/AD/Turner have the potential to do it. Bogey is arguably better than Hield (has a net plus rating and at least tries on D), and perhaps just as important is expiring. This would allow the Lakers to sign another All Star outright next summer, such as Kyrie, whereas Hield's contract would not allow them to do that.

3 - 2nd round picks and Keon Johnson enough to pry away Jared Vanderbilt? What else or who else would need to be added to this to get it done?

Vanderbilt seems like the most likely to be kept during the rebuild, so I imagine it would take more than some seconds to get something done. Now if you want one of the Vets...

Anyone hear what Washington offered to Utah for Mitchell that they are feeling confident in? I'm not seeing much on their team that really appeals to me.

Don't they need more salary? I know have 3 FRP they send out unprotected. Not much of a pick package.

They have swaps and showing a baseline for trade, would need salary filler.

Read this on WAS board:

This is pure hype. The Wizards don't have the picks to get in on the Mitchell trade. All of our picks are encumbered until 2027.

Not enough picks.

That’s right, their pick to New York is protected.

If I were the Lakers I would do the trade for the Indiana players before the Utah offer , unless it included Clarkson and Bogey....even then.....

I want 5 picks from the Knicks and 2 from the Lakers.

What if now we make a trade with NY and LA:

Utah Trades: Bogie, Clarkson, Conley, Gay
Utah receives: Reddish, Quickly, Westbrook, 2027 LA 1st

LA Trades: Westbrook, 2027 LA 1st
LA Receives: Conley, Fournier, Gay

NY Trades: Fournier, Reddish, Quickly
NY Receives: Bogie, Clarkson

Utah gets rid of their older veterans that can help some teams, frees up some cap space by buying out Westbrook, gets more draft capital.
LA gets rid of Westbrook and only sends out 1 of their 2 picks to do it. Gets some veteran help in Conley and Gay and a shooter in Fournier to help Lebron in win now mode.
New York trades Reddish who reports say he wants out, Quickly is redundant with Brunson so he gets moved and Fournier gets upgraded to Bogie. They also receive a scorer in Clarkson.

I don't hate it for Jazz but highly doubt Leon Rose is going to answer any calls from Ainge in the near future with all the egg on his face. Lakers apparently want expiring contracts in return for Westbrook. Don't think they would take on Conley, Fournier, or Gay.

@dr0welf inspired me so here is my attempt at a Westbrook trade:

To Lakers: Bogey, Beasley, D. Powell

To Mavericks: J. Clarkson

To Jazz: Westbrook(bought out), 2027 Laker FRP, 2028 Laker swap, Dallas draft capital (I have no idea what Clarkson is worth here??)

Return to Utah Jazz
