A trip down memory lane: Run TMC combine for 104 points vs Philadelphia

Post#1 » by GSWFan1994 » Wed Aug 31, 2022 4:58 am

This vid just appeared on my YT feed... enjoy:

Here's the boxscore link.

Tim Hardaway 40/5/14
Mitch Richmond 35/5/6
Chris Mullin 29/3/8

Those Warriors were something else, no?

PS: a question for those who were around at that time... why wasn't Mitch Richmond an All-Star in his first 4 years? His numbers were pretty good back then.

Wow, Andre Turner was playing for Philly! He came to play in Spain a couple years later and became a legend here. I'm sure he would have had a long NBA career if he had been a bit taller.

On topic, Tim Hardaway was so exciting as a player. Two-step UTEP!

Love all of them. Richmond would be my favorite though

They were a fun trio to watch, unfortunately they were only together for 2 years, and had very little supporting cast during those years.

That team concept was about 30yrs before its time. Don Nelson was a basketball savant, except for trading Webber he let ego get in the way.

They'd be tremendous today.

The All Star game was entirely based on the fan vote back then, it was more of a popularity contest than an actual accolade

utep two step, the best crossover move. do it on 1v1, in traffic, coming straight forward, side to side either direction, bust it out anywhere.

I moved to SF in '87 and fell in love with this Warriors team shortly thereafter....been a fan ever since. I loved them all and was devastated when they traded Mitch for Billy Owens. Special shout out to Sarunas Marciulionis as well. I went to a Purdue vs. USF game being played at the Cow Palace in SF and was putting mustard on a hot dog when I looked up to see Timmy Hardaway, who was recovering from his knee injury, doing the same thing. I smiled and wished him a speedy recovery and he said, "thanks".

I didn't know that. Do you know when they started allowing the coaches to select the reserves?

It wasn't all that terribly long ago I don't think. They gave the media and coaches a say again a few years ago when there a large push from the country of Georgia to get Zaza Pachulia into the All Star game and he was on track in the voting to be an All Star starter which prompted the NBA to quickly change the rule. Had they not changed it there is no doubt Boban Marjanovic would have made some All Star games by now. Yao Ming also made the All Star team all 9 years of his career thanks to Chinese voting and I remember debates as to how many of those All Star selections he actually deserved (generally the consensus is about 4-5).

I watched this team a lot back in the day. I'm a Celtics fan but I grew up in central California and got Warriors games as a kid on the little TV in my bedroom. Good stuff.

Chris Mullin was my favorite player growing up. I still remember arguing with my friends on the bus to school after he got drafted. They were all saying he was gonna be a bust and laughing at me for insisting he would be an all star.

Loved Run TMC, all 3 of them. But Mullin was my guy.
