Nice of Jeanie to turn things around and build a crack house at the bottom of the standings instead.

Even with the down years surrounding the chip, they still haven't bottomed out the way her brother led team has

Jeanie knows nothing about basketball but is pretty good at Marketing... Jimmy knew nothing about Marketing but had decent knowledge of basketball...
Most CEOs come from Marketing backgrounds...
Jeanie trusts Linda and Kurt Rambis above just about anyone...
Jim trusted his brothers, Jerry West's kid, and Mitch Kupchack... he also maintained at least a cordial relationship with Jerry West...
Bottom line... If you think Jeanie was any more than a lateral move from Jim, you've been Marketed to...

Is there any footage of Jim speaking? I literally never heard him talk. I'm inclined to believe Jeanie and Jim are of about equal intelligence but Jim has a dopier looking face and no social skills.Kilroy wrote:Jeanie knows nothing about basketball but is pretty good at Marketing... I agree with that. Jeanie's success had everything to do with LeBron closing to come to LAL. Now not saying that isn't huge it was and there is a ring from it which iOS more than most franchises can claim in the time period, but the subsequent moves have not be amazing. The not top shelf, but not awful talent all got sent away for various reasons (Ball, Caruso, Kuzman, Ingram, THT now maybe throw Randle in) not that all could have been kept but you could have had a more balanced team.
The thing about trusting Rambis is odd IMHO. I mean Rambis was awesome in the original NBA video games of Lakers Celtics and Lakers Bulls, mainly because in the lesser graphics his glasses stood out. If that is a reason though to trust Rambis, Tom Chambers was a god in those games and he should be the voice.
Losing Jerry West as we all can say was likely a mistake. I get that Jerry isn't always easy to deal with but he is still likely the best basketball mind that would give input. Giving LBJ too much also was a mistake, and I don't blame LeBron, I blame management because that is their job.
Ramble on MJ... Point is Jeannie is at best a lateral move. Lakers have advantages other teams don't and they expect them but do not capitalize on them the best they can if that makes sense.

The only success they've had is because LeBron decided to come to LA, that's it

You should watch the documentary "Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers" to hear Jim Buss speak. He kind of matches what you expect from the look. And you can easily tell him and Jeanie hate each other.

Jeanie resents Jim because he was Dr Buss' favorite kid... It's blindingly obvious and incredibly juvenile...
Not to mention, fairly embarrassing as a Laker fan...

Lol. This is how they win. Put them in a random Midwest city and they are like every other franchise. It’s almost entirely about LA being a destination for young male millionaires, that’s the only secret sauce.

When Jimmy was running things, the Lakers record were damn near identical to the Sixers. Of course, the Sixers were willfully tearing it down to stockpile picks. If the Lakers were doing the same, but disguising it so that it only looked like incompetence, my hat’s off to them. They managed to that without arousing Adam Silver to sic the Colangelos on them to burn through said stockpile.

I'm not sure how the Lakers were supposed to be a contending team before LBJ got there, and even with that they had one year where everything went right and they won one.
Since then the LBJ+AD experiment has been pretty damn disastersous for a team that supposedly contains count them two top 10 players.

I mean...the only reason for her success was because her brother gathered all those high draft picks. If anything she should be thanking him lol. C'mon Jeanie! Grow up already!

I think that’s a bit of an oversimplification. The tanking by Jim and Mitch was one thing, the mozgov and deng signings were unforgivable.
You could try to call the Westbook trade as bad as those signings. But the Westbrook trade didn’t mortgage our future like those did. And they mortgaged our future while we were rebuilding! At least with Westbrook we were in win now mode.
I trust Jeanie more than Jim and Mitch at this point.
