Danny Ainge just took the whole NBA execs to school
Gobert + Mitchel for
6 unprotected 1sts
3 unprotected swaps
1 top 4 protected 1st
Lottery pick in Agbaghi
Late 1st in Kessler
AND on top of it these rotation players:
Beasly
Beverley
Markannen
AND young scorer on 18/yr deal in Sexton
I'm really not sure the Jazz post Mitchell trade are worse team than pre Mitchell trade, and add to that picks.

Yeah the Wolves and Cavs are desperate for relevance and overpaid for it.

The amount of respect I have for that franchise, to take a team that was guaranteed to make the playoffs but also guaranteed to never contend, and blow it up is sky high. They could’ve just stayed as a 1st round contender and kept their fan base happy but they aren’t settling.

Re: Danny Ainge just took the whole NBA execs to school
how can you be sure the players you will select with those picks (arguably all late 1st round) will even sniff to be as good as Mitchell and Gobert?

Gobert is 30+ y/o and flawed, Minny has no assets now, it's a bet I'd take everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.
Cavs have a great young core, the bet isn't as good, but they got 2 very good young players in Markannen and Sexton + a guy that was just picked in the lottery, and that's for Mitchell, a guy we saw play shameless turnstile defense that made Brunson look like Iverson.

Re: Danny Ainge just took the whole NBA execs to school
I'm just glad that six of those first round picks (three unprotected), two of those unprotected swaps and two of those young players--aka what Danny wanted from us--are not actually from the Knicks.
I think we dodged a bullet. This said, good luck to Cleveland and to Minnesota. It's risky in both cases, but they're far closer to justifying going "all-in" than we are.

I'm happy for my guy Ainge. Now that he's not in Boston we are finally allowed to say nice things about him on RGM haha.

Then you understand more than most Jazz fans on Twitter.

I believe Ainge only has a consulting role with the Jazz, and he has shown his worth so far. Its now up to the Jazz FO to use these picks to build the team properly.

He is the CEO of basketball operations, so yeah he's uh... consulting pretty heavily with the front office, since he's managing it.

Seems like he took two GMs to “school” not the entire NBA. And frankly I like the trade for Cleveland. They’re stacked with great young players as is and have the perfect landing spot for Mitchell imo.

You can't, but you also don't get any where without taking a chance. Utah wasn't winning a championship with the roster as it was and there was little else to really pop that was in Mitchell's timeline. It was either mediocrity and lose Mitchell and Gobert, else get value now and get pieces that may work better.
Frankly, I'm glad they went with the latter.

Re: Danny Ainge just took the whole NBA execs to school
Eh, I’m not even sure Mitchell and Gobert were THAT good.
Rudy’s obviously a defensive force, but he’s still pretty slow, and has never even gotten comfortable scoring over smalls on switches, let alone develop a good post game to use on bigs. He’s a garbage man only on offense.
Mitchell is top 5 in the NBA at getting his own shot, which is certainly a really important skill in the playoffs. But his defense hasn’t really improved, and his playmaking for others has never been more than average. He’s a tough guy to build an offense around even with his shotmaking ability.
Both are good players, maybe even very good. But neither is elite, or even close to it. Resetting with a big pick haul and some OK players makes sense in this situation, especially when the two players had poor chemistry and a mutual dislike for each other.

Ainge was trying to accommodate Mitchell and send him to Miami or New York, but those teams didn't accommodate the Jazz.

Yeah, Danny Warchest is back at it.
Get ready for another 7 years of RealGMers complaining about Ainge clutching his assets too hard, LOL.

The T-Wolves should be OK. Even in 2029, KAT and ANT should still be within their primes and presumably still making the playoffs.
Cavs are also a talented team with a young core. So this isn't a Nets situation where they were trading old, former all-stars that everyone knew were about to fall off a cliff.

Show me one team that has won a championship by hoarding picks and turning the franchise into a disgrace for years on end.
It’s the most lauded team-building strategy that has never produced even a finalist.

For the next 2-3 years, they want those totals to be as low as possible. That was the entire point of unloading Mitchell before the seasons started. He was going to win them games they didn't want to win.
