Bleacher ReportTrade Ideas to Hawks Starting Lineup
Raptors get: De'Andre Hunter, Jalen Johnson, Maurice Harkless and 2024 first-round pick (lottery-protected, via SAC)
Hawks get: OG Anunoby
While Atlanta unloaded several prime assets in the Dejounte Murray deal, it stopped short of pushing all chips to the center of the table. That means there's still enough to broker a smaller, but still significant swap.
Anunoby could be the difference-making, two-way wing this roster needs to reach the next level.
He is essentially what the Hawks hope Hunter may eventually become, only Anunoby can contribute to a deep playoff run right now. Atlanta could pester perimeter scorers of all types with Murray and Anunoby, while the latter could see his already solid shooting rates climb even higher while playing off a dynamic shot-creator like Trae Young.

Overpay for OG considering his injury history (even though sim. with Hunter). This trade also leaves our bench more than paper thin if we assume Johnson and Harkless will be backup PFs and Hawks also don't have money to fill that backup PF spot.

Re: Atlanta Hawks Official Trade Ideas Thread Part 3
It can be interesting, but it would depend on several things:
- the estimated future contract of Hunter. Anunoby has 3 years left (3rd is player option) at 18.5M average
- how Hunter starts the season: if he defends like in 2020-21, he's a far better defender than Anunoby. If he defends like in 2021-22... maybe this trade would be a good thing
- let's see how Johnson play (for real, not 3 minutes) before trading him.
Even if Anunoby is good, let's say the trade happens before the start of the season, and Hunter is back to his defense, and Johnson can really play, this trade would look later like a steal for TOR, especially if you add the 24' pick

I wouldn't do it for the Hawks and don't see why TOR would. OG is really good but, Hunter should make a jump soon.

I wouldn’t do this trade, but I do think Hunter is going to have to earn the starting spot at the 3 this year. I think JH might take it from him before the season starts. That wing spot is one I’d love to see us upgrade especially given DH’s contract extension discussions stalling and his injury history.

I don't see that happening at all.

Getting Murray is great, but I would love to see more bench depth and a different inside game. Although we are going to see a much different one with OO and Kaminsky taking the time of Gallinari and Dieng, to tell the truth.
I still consider out bench as very weak. Bogdanovic, OO, Kaminsky and the rest is not enough. We need at least two more players who can contribute.

They're not gonna be good enough this season to justify paying the luxury tax. The alternative--trading a starter for more rotation depth--seems counterproductive.
The Hawks are gambling on internal development from guys like Jalen and A.J.

Re: Atlanta Hawks Official Trade Ideas Thread Part 3
So Miami gets to dump Duncan Robinson, upgrade at PF and grab a first round pick?!?
Bleacher ReportImpact NBA Trades
Atlanta Hawks receive: OG Anunoby and Thaddeus Young (can't be traded until Jan. 15)
Toronto Raptors receive: Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson and Jalen Johnson
Miami Heat receive: John Collins and 2024 first-round pick (lottery-protected, from ATL via SAC)
The Hawks could use another lock-down defender, even after splurging on Dejounte Murray this summer. The Raptors could get good mileage out of a perimeter shot-creator. The Heat have a glaring void at the 4 spot and could look John Collins' direction after seemingly lacking the assets to broker a bigger blockbuster for Kevin Durant or Donovan Mitchell.
Could this swap satisfy all three? It's possible.
Murray might be a better individual defender than Anunoby, but the former can only provide so much protection as a 6'4", 180-pounder. Anunoby, a 6'7", 232-pound swingman, can pester both quick guards and big forwards.
Between those two, De'Andre Hunter, the combination of Clint Capela and Onyeka Okongwu at center, plus Thaddeus Young filling a niche between the 4 and 5 spots, Atlanta could put a turbo-charged defense around Trae Young and potentially strike a championship-level, two-way balance.
Toronto's offense is fine (15th in efficiency), but if the Raptors helped Herro realize his full potential, he could be their key to cracking the Association's top tier. He just pumped in 20.7 points and 4.0 assists as a third-year reserve, and he still has considerable room to grow as a scorer and shot-creator.
With the feisty Fred VanVleet and a collection of long-limbed defenders up front, Toronto may have more than enough defensive protection to cover up Herro's shortcomings at that end. It should also be able to find a role for Duncan Robinson—an overpaid shooting specialist—and Toronto can run the physically gifted Jalen Johnson through its developmental program.
The Heat would fill their void at the 4 with Collins, escape Robinson's bloated salary, gain a first-round pick to keep or trade and not have to try to price Herro in 2023 restricted free agency. Collins has seen his usage drop in recent years, but the last time he was featured on that end, he averaged 21.6 points on 58.3/40.1/80.0 shooting.

John Collins and D Hunter for J Brown?

Jaylen Brown

Fadeaway WorldNBA Executive Names Hawks As A Threat To Acquire Jaylen Brown
an anonymous Eastern Conference executive has spoken about the one team that could be seriously interested in taking Brown away from the Celtics. The Atlanta Hawks, who made a move and acquired Dejounte Murray recently, are supposedly looking to add even more two-way players to their roster. The executive's words were reported by Sean Deveney of Heavy.com.Code: Select all
“They’ve been after more two-way players in recent years because signing up a few big names around Trae Young has not worked out. We’ll have to see what they do with (De’Andre) Hunter and (Onyeka) Okongwu because they will need extensions but if they can clear out the room, that’s probably the biggest team to worry the Celtics,” an Eastern Conference executive told Deveney.
Brown is an Atlanta native, and the lure of going home is always a strong one when it comes to professional sports and where athletes end up playing. Jaylen seems like a cornerstone of this Celtics team, and this news might seem bizarre after that Celtics Finals run, but the team has made it clear that they don't consider him untouchable if the right opportunity comes along.
And Brown will also be an unrestricted free agent in 2024 unless he signs an extension with Boston. This means that at the end of next season, he will have just one year left on his contract, opening up all sorts of possibilities.

Just gotta acquire or draft the best shooting big available and I'm in.

I'm a Knicks fan so I'm neutral, but...
I was thinking of some names that could still be traded and John Collins comes to mind. So I then was thinking of teams that could trade for him and the Wizards seem like a team that would just like to upgrade talent.
Their pick is locked up currently, but out of Davis, Kispert, Avdija and Hachimura... which of those guys gets added to Kuzma in a Kuzma + 1-2 of those guys for Collins deal?

Kyle Kuzma, Johnny Davis & Corey Kispert for Collins and Moe Harkless is a doable trade.
Kispert projects as an elite shooter in the mold of Kyle korver.
Johnny Davis is a big wing with defensive chops and some mid range scoring ability.
Kuzma's shooting makes him a perfect complement to Capela and Okongwu. He could give us comparable production on a smaller salary than JC.

Re: Atlanta Hawks Official Trade Ideas Thread Part 3
Bleacher ReportOG Anunoby to Hawks, Clint Capela and De'Andre Hunter to Raptors
Atlanta Hawks Receive: F OG Anunoby, C Khem Birch, 2023 first-round pick (lottery-protected)
Toronto Raptors Receive: C Clint Capela, F De'Andre Hunter
After ranking 26th in total defense last season with a 113.7 rating, the Hawks knew they needed to upgrade on that side of the ball. The trade for Dejounte Murray was a good start, but why stop there?
Anunoby is one of the NBA's better wing defenders, ranking in the 88th and 71st percentiles the past two years, per Cleaning the Glass. Moving Capela also opens the starting center job for Onyeka Okongwu, a 21-year-old with elite defensive potential.
Surrounding Trae Young with Murray, Anunoby, John Collins and Okongwu shoots this Hawks team up the defensive rankings.
The move also brings in a first-rounder after Atlanta traded three to acquire Murray and prevents the Hawks from having to work out a long-term deal with Hunter, who will be a restricted free agent next summer.
For the Raptors, this move makes the team bigger, longer and adds a true center next to Pascal Siakam. Hunter has battled injuries throughout his career but can still be a valuable two-way wing, and Toronto can match any offer he receives next summer.
Capela, 28, double-doubled for the Hawks last season with 11.1 points, 11.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game while making 61.3 percent of shots. Toronto can go huge with the 6'1" Fred VanVleet, 6'7" Scottie Barnes, 6'8" Hunter, 6'8" Siakam and 6'10" Capela and are getting two starters for one with this deal.

If this trade had to be done, it would have been done already.
So I am relief that we are not doing it, as I believe that Hunter and Capela together are way more important in a game than Anounoby.
I still believe Hunter is going to have a breakthrough season if he finally is healthy enough.
He is a key to our system and team, as he can play defense in 2-3 positions, helps with rebounding, has long arms and is a good shooter and athlete.

Any thoughts on trading for 4x NBA Champion Draymond Green now or in the future?
Draymond for Capela works as a one-for-one. Warriors get free from Green a year early. Hawks take a shot at a title run this year with a Trae/Dejounte/Draymond triumvirate.

I don't see us great trade partners, Hawks aren't going into the tax for Crowder, nor give up any real assets for him on an expiring.
