This plays into why Tatum’s gravity is so insane, nevermind all the attention when he puts the ball down, he never gets left alone even off ball.

Really hope Brogdon helps here, with his driving

In the top 10 most heavily contested 3 pt shooter, you have nine guys where it's like that makes sense nobody is going to leave them open beyond the arc and you have one guy where it's like that makes sense it's Terence Ross

I’ll be honest, the playmaking he’s starting consistently showing is something I just wasn’t sure we’d ever see, and definitely not by this point.

Ah yes the good old "is Tatum a superstar ?" debate. I think it just depends on how many players are classified as superstars at any given time.

Personnally, I think a superstar is someone that's so famous that they transcend their discipline and that even people that don't follow that space at all can still name/recognize them. So there's only two active right now, LeBron and Steph and Tatum isn't close.

But I know that most people that follow the NBA have a more liberal interpretation of the term and think there's like 12. If there's 12 superstars how can there any doubt about whether Tatum is deserving of the label ? If he doesn't make the cut, I seriously question what these people were watching these last couple of years (also please go work for the Lakers front office).

Back to the main point of the tweet, I agree that he's been way more consistent with his passing lately and that has really opened up the offense. There were always flashes but it's cool to see players (especially Celtics) realize their potential.

Nba university definitely thinks he is, FWIW. But it’s still a topic of debate for some reason, but it’s just people blindly hating at this point.

I think he's saying y'all love in Boston is fake lol. If St.Louis or Duke had an NBA team, JT would ask for a trade already.

It all really boils down to if Tatum can get to KD/Kawhi levels of efficiency as a scorer (a 48/38/85 type of scorer), he's 6"8 or 6"9 so height won't be the issue.

If Tatum does that then along with his defence and rebounding, it'll put him right in the top 5 players in the league category.

Highlighted in red are what Tatum really needs to improve upon, he needs to become much better at the midrange to reach the next level imo. It's probably his biggest weakness atm.

highlighted in yellow is an area of growing concern, but not necessarily a weakness, I know he's a good three point shooter, but it's been on the decline over the last 2 years with the extra attempts.

Highlighted in green is where he's truly excelling at, he's become elite at finishing at the rim now and I don't expect that to change.

I don't think anyone expects him to shoot like Steph, so maybe a greater shot balance by taking (and making) more mid range shots would open up his game to the next level.

Tatum just needs to get his TS to 59-60% to hit that raw stat superstar bar, but as far as impact on the game? He’s 100% already there, which is why teams gameplan for him like they do, and the advanced stats have him top 5-7.

I think he tops 59% this season, he was at 61% after December 1st last season IIRC, and that was without unsustainable shooting from deep or anything.

If I had to guess, I’d say he goes for 26/8/6 on close to 60% TS.

My theory is because he lets the defense dictate when he takes his mid range shots. It’s usually off balanced fadeaways, especially when trying to post up obviously. He mostly mastered dictating when he wants to take threes, and finish at the rim, now it’s time for inbetween.

I like that him and Hanlon said that better balance and more in rhythm pull-ups were a huge point of their workouts this summer. I think he will get up to the 40%ish mark from mid range, which is plenty good enough for him. People keep saying he should take more shots from mid range to keep defenses honest, I just think he needs to take better shots from mid range.
