The team still has to deal with Herro's extension and Strus as well so I don't see any moves being made. The easiest move available was to pay Oladipo, Dedmon & Martin to stay.

Either that or trade some of these guys with new contracts due soon and assets for a star to win a championship next to Jimmy Dedmon Dipo Martin Lowry and Bam

No one gets paid to make the easy moves.

Who do we go after? I asked myself this very question but looking around the NBA landscape this offseason this is what I seeing.

Top 3 Unrestricted Free Agents that moved to new teams:
1. Jalon Brunson - New York Knicks - 4 Years/104M dollars, leaving Dallas. (player chose the New York Knicks, Miami did not have the Cap space to sign).
2. PJ Tucker - Philadelphia 76rs - 3 Years/33M dollars, Leaving Miami. (was not resigned or else we would operate over the cap an limit the rest of our players signing).
3. John Wall - Los Angeles Clippers - 2 Years/13M dollars, Leaving Rockets via buyout. (Player chose the LA Clippers, no regards were placed for Miami).

Top 3 Restricted Free Agents that moved to new teams:
1. None. ( Deandre Ayton matched immediately, Miami lacked Cap space/ability to put an offer sheet in place regardless).

Top 5 Disgruntled Stars/Players possibly available known around league wanting out:
1. Kevin Durant - Brooklyn Nets - Stayed/reconciled with Owner. (Miami lacked Assets & Players to meet team demand)
2. Donovan Mitchel - Utah Jazz - Traded to Cleveland Cavaliers. (Miami lacked Assets & Players to meet team demand)
3. Kyrie Irvin - Brooklyn Nets - Stayed/reconciled with Owner. (Miami was not interested, Executives do not want headache)
4. Russel Westbrook - Los Angeles Lakers. (Miami is not interested, Bad contract to take on, hurts team not improve)
5. Patrick Beverly - Minnesota Timberwolves - Traded to Los Angeles Lakers. (Miami was not interested, No matching salaries available even if presenting with opportunity sitting at 13M in salary).

Current Assets available to use in Trade for a PF or Player of need:
1. Combination of - Duncan & FRP's - PF/Player of need at or around $18M-20M in Salary (Miami will not lose an FRP to trade Duncan, Additionally very little interest around the league for a 3pt shooter who cant do much else and is a liability on defense).
2. Combination of - Duncan & Herro - PF/Player of need at around $22M-24M in Salary (Miami will only include Herro for a premier level player as he holds more Value to Miami than to other teams, currently middling in value outside of Miami due to many unknowns & upcoming large extension).
3. Players available to be thrown as assets currently:
A. Yurt(decent sweetener, can be attached if needed)
B. Struss(very good sweetener, Duncan's replacement if traded so won't be combined with Duncan in any one trade).

As of right now based on everything I am hearing its far more likely we run this back than make a trade anytime soon.
1. The only team still calling around the league based on my source is Utah who is on a fire sale with the rest of their remaining Assets, but are asking for Picks/young players attached to any one trade and or Expiring deals lastly.

There is literally nothing out there right now for us enticing us to let anything go out.

The young perineal all star SG who is an elite playoff performer and who idolizes the best player in our teams history who’s best friend also happens to play here. He clearly wanted to be here And I know for damn sure we could’ve came up with 4 first round picks to send.

We can complain about the trade package all we want but that’s the market for star players, even players worse than him. Look at both harden trades, Jrue holiday, Gobert, etc. You want a young all star locked up long term then you gotta give up assets.

The time to go all in is when you’re right on the cusp of winning a championship but continue to fall just a little short. We were asleep at the wheel

The only front court player I see as somewhat realistic to get for a combination of Duncan, Dedmond, and a min salary player (Highsmith) without including a pick is Julius Randle who the Knicks may want to move to open up time for Obi. They may also target Collins if they are willing to include a pick. To me I wouldn’t mind Randle who is versatile and is offensively minded and can play next to Bam and Jimmy. You can keep your main assets and upgrade the team.

24 is in the borderline all-star territory and with Strus, Healthy Dipo, and Duncan still on the roster, it is far-fetched.

19-20 is a fair number. Dame Lillard only averages 24ppg last season while Bradley Beal only averages 23ppg. IF Herro's stats Jumps in that number, an all-star appearance is possible.

Yeah it's hard for me to see him go to 24-25 ppg. He has to learn how to ref-bait to get there. Unless Bam tricks us again, he should be taking more shots too which makes it harder for Herro

Lillard played just 29 gm's last season but put up 30 & 28 seasons prior. Beal played just 40 gm's last season but dropped 31 & 30 seasons prior. I agree 4pts is a big leap but 2pts is not far-fetched (I said between 22pts & 24pts). Although, I wonder how many counted him out increasing his ave by 7pts from his rookie to his 3rd season going frm just 13 to 20pts. Wonder how many doubted he wld increase his average from 15 as a sophomore to 20pts in his 3rd. I'm not guaranteeing he will but I'm not counting out those numbers. Herro is a highly skilled player w/ sound fundamentals, phenomenal footwork & a high competitive drive who's a gym rat. I will never count out these sorts of players especially when supported by a great development coaching staff such as Miami's.
If u don't want 2b here, the way things work, u don't like it, then don't b here. U have 2 stand on something. If Miami ain't standing on something, they become alot of these organizations trying 2 find their identity. This is the culture, bro -Wade

So how does it make any sense for OKC to turn down a free asset (I’d send a 2nd over Gabe or Yurt) to take the protections off of our pick and make the pick better for OKC? Am I missing something? Seems like a no brainer for OKC

Mitchell aside, what about the Beal did we apparently had in place according to you and your source? Why back out of a sure thing, especially when we knew how absurd the Nets asking price was for Durant? Dude averaged like 30-5-5 2 out of the last 3 seasons and has been linked to us for awhile. No one on the team currently will ever have a 30-5-5 season.

This was more like a Jimmy Butler scenario too, the trade would’ve required much less assets because Beal wanted to be here as a FA. We would’ve compensated Washington for helping up bring him in like we did with Philly.

The Cavaliers gave up 3 future unprotected picks outright, and 2 unprotected pick swaps for Mitchell. All several years out. In addition to their 2022 14th overall selection Agbaji . Plus Sexton locked up 4 years no outs, and Markkanen. If you think the Heat realistically could’ve beaten this deal, your perception is not rooted in any type of reality.

Oh they could have and you could argue our picks have more value than the Cavs. Send a 2nd to unlock the OKC pick and there’s 3. Send Strus or Gabe/yurt to a contender for a 1st and there’s 4 picks. Send out the swaps. Herro > Sexton coming off a full season missed due to injury. Send Jovic.

Lowry/Schroder/Vet
Mitchell/Dipo/Vet
Jimmy/Strus/Highsmith
Martin/Vet/Days
Bam/Dedmon/Vet

Give me that any day of the week and I’ll live with whatever the results may be. That’s just the price of acquiring a young star on a long term contract.

You missed the fact both Riley and Ainge hate one another. Does not matter if our assets are better or not. No deals will happen with the Jazz.

Wishful thinking but no, those options dried out all Miami had available to them was 2 picks plus sending assets to OKC to unlock the third pick that is all. Early in Free agency they had a 4 team trade line up that allowed an additional pick in return, once teams started to settle in that was no longer on the table for Miami. Miami did not have anything anything outside of including Bam or Jimmy to one up Cleveland. Also OKC didn't want a 2nd to unlock the 1st rounder they wanted Yurt. They new exactly what we were hunting for.

This is a make or miss league like they say and Miami as an organization is known for shooting big in free agency. How's that saying go "shoot for the moon", yeah that's them.

From what I remember, Beal was 80% wanting to resign in Washington and 20% open to the possibility of coming here, he was eager to resign and didn't want to wait. Miami started the conversation and he like the possibility in-fact his agent wasn't even looking elsewhere it was either resign in Washington finish out his career there as his initial preference or come here. Durant dropped that bombshell and caused some chaos putting a lot of teams in a dead pause and pivot in their plans. Trust me it wasn't just Miami that stopped in their tracks looking at the Durant situation a little closer. Miami always would prioritize Durant #1 above all those other wings, in-fact based on age they would take Donovan over Beal as well, they knew early on after Utah's trade to Minnesota that they had no shot at Donovan, that ship sailed early.

Anyways from a guess I am sure Beal's team didn't want to stand around and saw Miami favored Durant so I am sure Beal was like F you I aint second to nobody I am number 1 here in Washington and resigned for 10 Brinks trucks worth of bills.

So we have a GM who can’t work with other GMs and one of the major player representations in the league? Seems like a major handicap.

I’ve heard that this isn’t actually the case with these negotiations, had Miami came up with the assets they could’ve made something happen. We simply didn’t want to.

I’m just not buying this but at this point it doesn’t matter. I’ll die alone on the hill that out of 29 other teams you could’ve found 1, especially a contender, who would’ve sent a 1st round pick for an elite shooter and the most efficient shooter in the league last year based on PPP in Strus. Especially when you consider he’s so cheap that a player wouldn’t be needed to complete the deal.

Seems like we only got assets to trade for a star on an expiring contract - Kai and Harden

So how does it make any sense for OKC to turn down a free asset (I’d send a 2nd over Gabe or Yurt) to take the protections off of our pick and make the pick better for OKC? Am I missing something? Seems like a no brainer for OKC

They aren't giving up anything. We'll be back, and it's not like our offer is going to get any worse.

Time to roll with what we have and wait for the trade deadline and grab someone then once we have assessed the different lineups and any injury concerns with the team. The East will be tough, lets not jump the gun and get too antsy just to make a move that could cripple the team for a long time. Riley does his best work at the deadline.
