Oh they could have and you could argue our picks have more value than the Cavs. Send a 2nd to unlock the OKC pick and there’s 3. Send Strus or Gabe/yurt to a contender for a 1st and there’s 4 picks. Send out the swaps. Herro > Sexton coming off a full season missed due to injury. Send Jovic.
Lowry/Schroder/Vet
Mitchell/Dipo/Vet
Jimmy/Strus/Highsmith
Martin/Vet/Days
Bam/Dedmon/Vet
Give me that any day of the week and I’ll live with whatever the results may be. That’s just the price of acquiring a young star on a long term contract.
Wishful thinking but no, those options dried out all Miami had available to them was 2 picks plus sending assets to OKC to unlock the third pick that is all. Early in Free agency they had a 4 team trade line up that allowed an additional pick in return, once teams started to settle in that was no longer on the table for Miami. Miami did not have anything anything outside of including Bam or Jimmy to one up Cleveland. Also OKC didn't want a 2nd to unlock the 1st rounder they wanted Yurt. They new exactly what we were hunting for.
I’m just not buying this but at this point it doesn’t matter. I’ll die alone on the hill that out of 29 other teams you could’ve found 1, especially a contender, who would’ve sent a 1st round pick for an elite shooter and the most efficient shooter in the league last year based on PPP in Strus. Especially when you consider he’s so cheap that a player wouldn’t be needed to complete the deal.
I think you are confusing a first round pick with an un-protected first round draft pick. No team would ever give an unprotected draft pick for him, maybe near the trading deadline if that team is #1, but even then its a hard sell since its an unprotected first round pick.
